SIVU 2 Proceedings of the Board of Education of Erwin Township Minutes of the annual meeting and election of the Erwin Township School District held June 8, 1953. The Eleqtion Board consisted of the following: Chairman, Elmer Mickelson; Inspectors, Verner Vanhala and Arthur Nylund; Clerks, Mrs. Hilda Helgren and Mrs. Esther Pumala; Gatekeepers, Peter Keränen and Henry Kaartunen. Between the hours of 3 and 5 p.m. the meeting of the District for the purpose of transacting any business that might legally be presented was called to order by the chair man, Elmer Mickelson. > On motion by Hjalmer Carlson, seconded by Arthur Pakonen, Mrs. Elma Koivisto was elected to act as Secretary of the annual meeting. Motion carried. Elmer Mickelson read the minutes of the last annual meeting. On motion by Hjalmer Carlson, seconded by Wil liam Niemi, the minutes were approved as read. Motion car ried. The following resolution was offered by Arvo Niemi, supported by William Niemi: WHEREAS, The taxes for the ensuing fiscal year are due and payable on and after December 1, 1953, so that said tax moneys will not be available for general school purposes during the first six months of the ensuing school year begin ning July 1953; and whereas, the school district will be in need of $lO,OOO over and above the moneys now in the gener al school fund to meet payrolls and other school operating costs pending the receipts of sucii taxes for the year 1952; and whereas, there will be in the Building and Site Fund of the school district the sum of $lO,OOO which will be available to finance school operation during the period from July 1, 1953 to January 15, 1954, wher\ taxes for the year 1953 will be collected and turned over to the school district; and whereas, it is necessary in order to use such moneys for general school purposes that a resolution authorizing a tem porary transfer of said funds be adpoted by the electors. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That the sum of $10,000.00 be temporarily transferred from the Building and Site Fund to the General Fund of the school district for the purpose of meeting payroll and other operation costs of the school district, as needed for the period from July 1, 1953, to January 15, 1954, and that the proper school officers be au thorized and directed to make such temporary transfer as needed to meet payroll and other operation costs. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That for the purpose of securing the repayment of said sum of $lO,OOO to the Building and Site Fund of the school district that therfe be irrevocably pledged out of the first moneys to be received from school taxes for the year 1953 the sum of $lO,OOO, and that until said sum of $lO,OOO is repaid to the Building and Site Fund upon receipt of taxes that moneys received from taxes for the year 1953 be used for no other purpose; and that the proper school officers are authorized and directed to make such repayment to the Building and Site Fund from such taxes for the year 1953 upon receipt of such taxes. The above resolution was duly adopfed. It was moved by Carl Anderson, seconded by Mrs. Matt Harja, that the present Erwin Township School be renamed The K. P. Silberg School, in honor of the late Supt. K. P. Silberg. Motion carried. It was moved by Arvo Niemi, seconded by Reino Mattila, that the Board of Education continue paying tuition of Junior College students. Motion carried. It was moved by Hjalmer Carlson, seconded by Carl Pohjola, that the school continue its hot lunch program. Mo tion carried. It was moved by John K. Jackson, seconded by Wayne Keto, that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried. The polls were declared closed at 6:00 o’clock p.m., and the inspectors proceeded to count the ballots of the election, the following being the result: For Trustee for a term of three years: John K. Jackson received 113 votes, Caesar Tiziani received 130 votes, Hjalmer Carlson received 94 votes, Andrew Hendrickson received 109 votes. John K. Jackson and Caesar Tiziani, having received the largest number of votes, were declared elected as Trustees ior a term of three years. (Signed) ELMER MICKELSON, Chairman (Signed) MRS.
