on. erecting the wall according to his
own Ideas nud tho consequence Is that
ho town contains no walls to aomparo
n point of substantial features with
those in Uio Pardito building. Tho
foundations were laid of large Hat rock
four feet long by three feet wldo ami
about eight Inches thick. Theso great
rock wero bedded In cement mortar
with other largo rock on top, The
walls were built on this foundation
nud are models of the mason s skin so
far as accuracy Is concerned. The
main walls ure twenty-four feet high at
front nud four feet six Inches lower nt
the rear. The building has n tin roof
nud Is what Is known as a double
decker. Tho main celling Is sixteen
feet while each of tho decks Is eight
feet. Abundance of light is furnished
from a fine Iron frame glass front, with
four windows at the rear. Mr. Carl
ltoberts superintended construction,
while Kd Wilson had tho contract for
tho carpenter work. Mr. Hopper, of
K unwell, plastered the building nud
performed an excellent job of finishing
work. Mr. Heslug will undoubtedly do
all the mason work In the way of fine

the waters of the Gulf of Mexico for
ten feet over Galveston Island Sunday
morning at about one o'clock. It was
the greatest horror ever Known in
America. About oue fourth of the

the city out of existence. Some of tho
