builder has constructed, launched ami
placed in successful operation a boat
for the exclusive use of the commerc
ial travelers of the nouses represented
in their work of scllina: goods on the
Mississippi river. Each travcliug man
has his own quarters where his sain

tage. The owner and manager a
long ago as twenty years conceived
the idea of building such a boat ; b
meeting with no encouragement from
the merchants, and not having suffic
ient means of his own then, he could
not carry the plan into execution,
When he submitted his plan a few
months ago, while few, if any, of the
wholesale houses were willing to pu
money into the enterprise, cuougl
agreed to engage rooms to warrau
the building of the boat. The littl
vessel is 98 feet iu length and 25 feet
iu width. The stern wheel is 16 lect
long,'12 inches face with' 8 icet arm
Tlie boiler is sunk in the deck floo
and the supply of coal is kent in the
hull of the boat. On the upper lecl
the sample rooms are located, six on
each side, with shelves and tables fo
the display of the samples, and a be(
for the occupant. Such & manner o
doing business is certainly pleasan
but if the boat strikes Memphis next
August and takes the yellow fever on
board we predict the commercial men
will abandon her quick enough.

The New Mexicansays:
"For some weeks past it has been
rumored that our contemporary, the
Era Southwestern, was on the point
of being sold but the matter was kept
quiet so that nothing definite in re.
gard to the matter could be ascertain
ed. Now, however, the sale has been
eil'ected the purchaser being Mr. Al
bright of Kansas, and it is sate to an
nounce that the Era Southwestern
will after this week be numbered
among the defunct journals of the
T'-rritory. In its place, however will
be established a democratic paper
sailing under different colors and
with a new title. What this litlc will
be has not buen announced, but it is
known that the new paper will bo an
evening journal about the feize of the
Las Vegas Optic, and published daily
and weekly. The firnt issue of the
paper, will probably be sent to the
public next Monday, when a more de
finite idea of what the new comer
will be may be gained."

Ouk esteemed contemporary daily

est. This is the way they talk: "San
ta Fe is certainly the most prominent
point readied by the road, affording
as it does more freight and a greater
number of passengers than any other
point on it, and the railroad company
will probably continuo to extend to
the city as great accommodations and
favors as to the stations along the
linn." That will bo all right in the
spring, brothers.
A crack-brained editor is strug
gling with poverty and a last cause
in Denver by publishing a Greenback
paper called the Financial Era. We
bet it is a fiuaucial era with him when
he can count five dollars of assets.
The fact is he is hallucinated with a
Financial Error, and he had better
take water 'cre-a sheriff gets hold of
him.
