How a Married Woman Goes to Sleep.
There is an article joing the rounds
entitled "How Girls Go to Sleep.'
The manner in which they go to sleep
according to the article, can t hold a
candle to the way a married woman
goes to sleep. Instead of thinking
what 6he should have attended to be
frre going to bed, the thinks of it
arrward. "While she is revolving
thffto matters in her mind, and while
uujjly tucked up in bed, the old man
is scratching his legs in front of the
fire, and wondering how he will pay
the next month's rent. Suddenly says:
"James, did you lock the door?"
"Which door?" says Jim.
"The cellar door." she says.
"No," says James.
''Well, you had, better go down and
lock it, for I heard some person in the
back-dard last night."
Accordingly Jim paddles down
stairs aud locks the door. About the
time James returns and is going to
get into bed. she remarks;
"Did you shut the stair door?"'
"No," said James.
Well, if it is not shut the cat will
get up into the bedroom."
"Let her come up, then," says Jim,
itluatu redly.
"My goodness, no," returns the
wife. "She'd suck the baby's breath."
Then James paddles down 6tairs
again, and steps on a tack and closes
the stair door, aud curses the cat and
returns to the bed room. Justas Uc
begins to climb into his caouch his
wife observes;
"I forgot to bruit; up some water.
Suppose you bring up some in the big
tin."
And so James with a muttered
curse goes down into the dark kitcheu
aud falls over a chair and rakes all
the tinware off the wall in search oí
the big tin, aud then jerks the stair
door open and howls:
"Where the deuce are the matches."
She gives him minute instructions
where to find the matches, aud adds
tha she would rather go and get the
water herself than have the neighbors
raised about it. After which James
finds the matches, procures the water
comes up stairs and pregaros himself
to retire. Before accomplishing this
feat his wife suddenly remembers
that she has forgot to chain the dog.
A trip to the kennel follows, and he
once more jumps into bed.
Presently hi? wife says:
"James, let's have a understanding
about money matter?. Now, next
week I have got to pay "
"I don't know what you have got
to pay, and I don't care," houts
James as he launches around and jams
his face against the wall; "All I want
now is sleep."
"That's all very well for you,"enaps
his wife, as she pulls the cover vici
ously; "you never think of the worry
aud trouble I have."

wallowed daily in Las Vegas by ail
classes is enormous; including the
better class of young men who were
brought up back in the States
to have a horror of the intoxicating
cup. Boys beware! You can drink
here without being noticed or being
branded topers but the habit will get
the better of you before you know

Fred Douglas has been receiving
ovations wherever he goes in Indiana.
jGreat crowds attend all his meetings,
and especially all the old line aboli
tionists and colored people flock to
hear him. .One account says proba
bly no man but Giant would draw
such crowds in Indiana.
