Tlio Xcw York Shipping List snys
that the ycnr 1879 will tiansinto Ame
rican history as a year of womlerfii
agricultural prosperity. The cotton
crop is larger than ever dclbre; the to
bacco crop is estimated to he 12.000,
000 pound in excess of that ot'1878:
the sugar crop promises to exceed any
previous yield. These are crops that
belong most exclusively to the south
ern halt'ot the republic. In behalf of
i he northern St ites the excess ot pro
ducís this year over the crops of any
previous v'ear is 20,0'i0,000 bushels of
wheat, nud from. 80,000.000 to 100,000,
X0 bushels of com. The hog crop is
also larger this year than for a number
of years 'past if it be not the largest
ever raised, while the minor crops
nearly all show an increase. And in
addition to this, there will he more
coal mined, more prominent manufac
tures prod ucd, more petroleum ta
li eu from the bowels of I he earth, and
more now enterprises projected than
in any year in the history of (he coiin
try. ' hi the light of these facts it is
not surprising J hat. the country is
making rapid strides in the direction
of material prosperity,
H-a m i
The announcement is made that for
Hielirst time in the history of Geor
gia the local mills find wheat insiifti
cent abundance to run them without
drawing supplies of wheat from the
Zs'orth.
Forty-live thousand merican house
doors were shipped to England the
other day on one steamer.
The only woolen mill iu Texas is at
Sow raunfels. Last vearthe profits
