Justice of 1 ho Peace Morrison has
given public notice that the Public
School in Precinct No. '26, under the
direction of Mr. Frank II. Guiou.was
opened on Monday last and that all
children over ci?;ht years of age,
within said precinct, arc at liberty to
attend said school.
At this writing there is no diminu
tion of business visible in the new
town, but upon the other hand per
manent residences arc in the Bourse
of construction, more so now than at
any previous period. Big as the whole
city is. it is much too little to acco
modate all who want to live in it.
Every inch of available paoe in this
vastly scattered niunieipaliiy is occu
pied, and single rooms for f.milics
are taken at $20 per month.
W. IT. AVhitclawa lawyer, has been
laid up for a tiniewiththroat trouble,
characterized by some as mountain
fever. After fully a week of indispo
sition lie plunged upon the street last
Tuesday but surrendered in the even
ing to an attack nearer, clearer, dead
lier than before. He wears red flan
nel around his neck, takes hia meals
out of a glass with a teaspoon and
lounges in the parlor of the Parker
bouse.

tain and is confident that all tho

in any one place. The way to settle

now, however, convalescent.
Mr. Robinson formerly of tho Kan
sas Restaurant has t ken the
Hamilton House and is now prepared
to entertain the traveling public in
first class style.
Mj. Beechcr of the firm of Mills
Beecher & Co., the nephew of his un
cle Henry AVrrd, a fluent and graceful
writer of things for the papers and ar
ticles for the magazines is now east
for the purpose of being palpable at
his fathers golden wedding.
It is said that Judge Wallace, once
a Pennsylvania lawyer, (hen a Mis
souri lawyer, then a Colfax County
miner,, prospecting deep into the
bowells of old Boldy for stuff that
glitters has given up prospecting for
the winter and will open au office in
Las Yedras.
Died.
At Las Vegas, New Mexico, Wedn
esday morning, Nov. 5, at 5 o'clock,
J. Reitz, aged about 33 years. The
deceased wa3 a native of Germany,
where his relatives reside; he was a
shoemaker by trade and was bard
working and industrious. He took
sick with inflamation of the bowels,
which terminated fatally in a few
days.
FUNERAL SERVICES.
The- funeral services were had ac
cording to the rites tf the Independ
ent Order of Odd Fellows. The mem
bers of the order met at the Masonic
Hall, at 3 o'clock P. M., formed in
procession and proceeded to the ma
sonic cementan-, where the burirl ce
remonies of the order were perform
ed in their usual beautiful and im
pressive style. The service was read
by S. S. Mendenhall and tho Ode by
Henry Jaffa. The pall bearers were,
K. Stnuisburg, T. A. Jones, W. G.
Ivoogler. J. M. Balding and W A.
G i vens.
Bishop Spalding will conduct the
opening services 3u the Episcopal
church next Sunday. The new house
is a credit to the town, the Bishop is
an eloquent and impressive preacher
and Iho house diould be filled to its
utmost.
