The rains the past few days have delayed quite a number from finishing harvesting. Mr. Jess Shaw of the Cumiford oniimniity spent Saturday after nt the Bout Sunday Scnool wasn't very well attended Sunday. But Ave hope to see every one come out next Sunday. Mrs. Kay Stewrt has kindly consented to assist in the choir with her violin. The Girls Cooking Club met Saturday afternoon, September 13th at the home of Sue Kitch ings. A very interesting meeting was held, and all the members were present. The next and last meeting of the year will be at the home of Mrs. Nance, Saturday afternoon September 27th. . Estancia From News-Herald Born. Thursday, September 11th, to Mr. and Mrs. II. J. Fincke at Moriarty, a son. Mrs. Khoda Evans and her daughter, Miss Chance, left Mon day for El Paso to spend 1be win ter. 11. G. Foster, state club leader, was here several days this week looking after club work in con nection with County Club Leader Bennett. J. M. Milbourn's brother from Eldorado, Kansas, is here visit ing. He says business is boom ing there, owing to the oil busi ness. Their corn crop was badly cut by hot winds. Mrs. S. B. Oren exhibited some crabapples in town Saturday that were the prettiest that ever grew They grew on the Oren place six miles west of Estancia. This i the first year that the frees have borne. A. B. Baca arrived home Tues day night from France. He was one of the first to answer the call, and was in service two years and three months. Sheriff! and Mrs. Baca are happy over the safe re turn of ther son. f JI-rs. -J. P. Porter went to Santa Fe'last Saturday for a f(.w days' visit with her daughter, Miss An nie. The latter writes that she likes her position in the state en gineer's office very much, and thinks she will like to live in San ta Fe. Mr; and Mrs. Shores, who re cently sold their farm near Fill more, Missouri, are here looking over the country with a view to locating. They sold their land in Missouri for $200 an acre, and iwr. Niorcs says the land here is better land and is this vear nro- ducing more money to the acre than the Missouri land. Thev went to Duran Monday. From Monday forenoon until Tueday night this week this val ley was soaked with such a rain as it does not often iret. It was slow and steady, with praclicallv no letup. The weather bureau says it was 1 .45 inches. Singing was well attended last Sunday and had some good sing ing. We have between 40 and 50 members and we are arranging to attend the County Convention at New Home the 4th Sunday in September. Our new sehoolhouse is Hear ing completion and we are plann ing to have school start Monday, the 22d. Prof. O. L. Jackson is to be in charge. We think Ave have a good teacher and the chil dren are urged to do their best. With sad hearts we have just learned of the death of our dear mother, Mrs. W. 1). Garrison, which occurred about noon Tues day the 16th. With her husband, she was at her daughter's, Mrs. J. T. Hodgin's, getting ready to leave for Arkansas on the next train east to visit her other chil dren and to make her future home. She had been stricken with paralysis in the spring of 1915 and had been an invalid since. She leaves her husband, four sons, three daughters a number of grandchildren, and a host of friends to mourn. Willard ti From Willard Record K. L. Hitt returned Friday from Las Cruces where he has been holding court. Mesd ames Brocan, Dawson and Salen, of Mountainair, were Sun day visitors in Willard. J. J. White of Mountainair Mas here Sunday receiving a bunch of cows and calves from Howard Payne. Chas. Weiult, President of the Wendt Syndicate of Sherman. Texas, is expected to, arrive here soon and bring a geologist who will locate the well which the syndicate Avill put down on their block of leases. Very little interest was shown in the election Tuesday, only 24 votes being cast, 1!) for and 5 against the soldier vote, 7 for and 17 arainst the Boad Bond and Board of Control amend ments. Tnnv Hilen who was the first Willard boy to volunteer his ser vices to his country has just re turned .from overseas and arriv ed home last night. To remove mildcAV, dissolve 1 ounce of chloride of lime inl pint of boiling water; then add 3 pints of cold water. Soak the ar ticle in this from 3 to 12 hours. Remove, rinse thoroly and send to the laundry. If the chloric'. of lime is not thoroly washed out, the fabric may be injured. Ex. Use crochet thread to work but tonholes. Being twisted harder than ordinary sewing thread it will make much firmer button holes. You may not be getting much of a run for your money, but how much of a run are you giving others for theirs! Mr. and Mrs. Claud Yarbrough spent Saturday and Sunday at Mrs. Yarbrough 's father's, J. SteAvart. Miss Thresia Eggar left Wed nesday for Gallup, Avhere she Avill enter the High School at that place. She Avill stay Avith her sis ter, Mrs. Berkhead. She Avill cer tainly be missed from among us, but Ave to glad for her that she can continue her education. The birthday celebration at Dr. Smith's Saturday night Avas Avell enjoyed. Ice Cream, chilled Ava termelons, cold drinks and dainty cakes Ave re served the guests. Baft' of the Willard Mercantile Co., left on the train last Saturday for Albu querque to consult a doctor. Mr. líai'fí's health has been failing the past Aveeks. We wish him a com plete recovery.
