May and family will move to their homestead as soon as their residence is finished. N. V. Gallegos has moved his office from the court house to rooms over the First National Bank. J. G. Walker, postmaster at Allen, and D. C. Aylesworth, of the same community, were apprec iated callers at this office, Monday. DIED- J. A. Maples, of Alpina, Ark., in this city, of tuberculosis, Saturday night of last "week. The remains were shipped back to Al pina for interment. Thomas Chittenden, manager for the Tucumcari Wool Scouring Plant, of Trinidad, Colo., was in the city the first of the week look ing after business matters. S. R. May received a telegram from relatives in Lincoln county, last Saturday, that his father was dangerously ill. He left immedi ately for Capitan to see him. Mrs. Ruthana Lober and her daughters, Misses Carlota and Dora, of Philadelphia, are visiting Dr. H. D. Nichols and family. Mrs. Lober is Mrs. Nichols' mother. J. A. Wright has deeded ten acres of his homestead of forty acres to the lodges of this city for a cemetery. It is needless to say that our lodges are grateful for this valuable consideration. J. V. Gallcgos and E. V. Galle gos of Conant and Isidor were Tu cumcari visitors Sunday, the guests of their brother, the Hon. N. V. Gallegos. The Gallegos brothers are U. S. Court Commissioners at Conant and Isidor. M. 13. Fowler has been in Kan sas City for the past two weeks taking treatment from a specialist for catarrah. Mr. Fowler had been suffering a great deal with this trouble for several years, and this winter it became more aggravated and compelled him to take treat ment. J. G. Benedict, of Dodson, was in the city Monday advertising for lost horses. The description is a gray mare branded F on right thigh, and fore-top cut; roan mare branded J L on the left thigh and shoulder. The animals are about eight years old. A ten dollar re ward is offered. Dr. Manney and his little daugh ter Lucile, of Reagan, Texas, and the following party of homeseekers arrived here Saturday: Dunham, Will Harlan, John Owens, T. ,1. Erskine, Noly Cobb, Will Claw- son all of Reagan, and W. F. Hurst and Elbert Nichols, of Clifton, Texas. They are looking for homes in the sunshine territory, and will likely locate in Quay county. They express themselves as very much pleased with the country. W. T. Massengce, a merchant of Quay, was in the city Monday attending to business matters with the commissioners' court. The anti-gambling act passed by the thirty-seventh legistature will go into effect on January 1st 1908. The bill is rather strenu ous. Miss Agnes Mattcson is employ ed in the office of Judge R. L. Patterson during his absence to Santa Rosalia, Mexico, where he is going to take the baths, hoping to be relieved of rheumatism. W. F. Kelsay, of Lloyd Valley, was in town for supplies, Mondav. He tells the editor of the News that his community has a public school with an enrollment of 35 pupils. Mrs. Tremble is the teacher. Miss Montoya of Albuquerciue. sister of V. S. Montoya of this city, is here visiting the Montoya femilv. A dance was given by her brother in her honor, at the court house Monday night that was very much enjoyed by everybody present. Miss Montoya is an accomplished young lady. J. M. Sconce and C. C. Wells. business men of the new town of Grady, were Tucumcari visitors Monday They are enthusiastic about the future greatness of their city. Houses are building and the country is rapidly filling up with homesteaders who are improving lands and developing the country. J. W. Campbell and J. E. Wright have dissolved partnership in the real estate business and Mr. Campbell has taken the pastorate of the Methodist Church, South. J. E. Wright has bought the town- site of San Jon and is incorporat ing a company to improve it. The name of the incorporation is to be the San Jon City Townsite Co. The new town of Solana is said to be booming; tents are going up everyday and houses will take their places as soon as a lumber company can get on the ground for business. Many lots are being sold by the townsite company, and the railroad company has just finished a very fine well which affords an abundance of water from a depth of 200 feet. The test of the well showed a strength of 70 gallons a minute. This makes it a very strong well, and it is a question if there is another like it from Daw son to El Paso.
