Six meetings in three days w ill, bo held in Daytona by the t Flying Squadron of America, the famous organization of temperance speakers and musicians, which is this winter visiting 2".0 principal cities of the 1'niled States in the interest of na tional constitutional prohibition of the liquor traltic. The meetings here will he held on February L'sth and March 1st and 2nd. The meetings on Sunday, February L'Stli. will be ;it the New Dnytona theater at 3: 3(1 and 7:30 p. m., tind on March 1st and L'nd will be at the band stand at 3:0(1 and 8:00 p. m. The plan of the Flying Squadron is unique in the history of the I'nited States. It is headed by former Governor J. Frank Ilanly, of Indiana, one ofho most powerful prohibition speakers in the I'nited states. It is organized in three groups, each group complete within itself. The first group will conduct the meetings of the lirst day, and pass on to the next city, its place being taken by the second and third groups in succes sion. In addition to speakers of na tional reputation, each group lias witli it musicians of ability. The revised registration list for the municipal election to be held February loth has been compiled by Supervisor of Registration J. H. Wethcrell nnd was -received by City Clerk A. McF. Porter yesterday. The list shows 462 persons qualilied to vote. The last petitions, to have names placed on tilt? nllieial ballot were Hied yesterday afternoon and candidates appeared for every ollieo except that nf assessor, now held by Otto II. Wehner. Somebody chucked a bombshell into the candidate camp by reading some where that revenue stamps were re quired on petitions to the extent of ten cents' worth to each sheet. Of course PRUSSIANS FLEE FROM HOME AS CZAR'S HORDES MARCH OVER RARRIERS PETROGRAD, JAN. 30. WITH PILLKALLEN, IN EAST PRUSSIA, IN THE HANDS OF THE RUSSIANS, THE INVADERS ARE PRESSING ON WARD TOWARD KOENIGSBURG, DESPITE THE STRONG REARGUARD RESISTANCE BY THE GERMANS. THE ENEMY IN THE REGION OF TILSIT IS REPORTED TO BE RETREATING, WHILE THE RUSSIANS ARE SWEEPING ON. TENS OF THOUSANDS OF PRUSSIANS ARE FLEEING FROM THEIR HOMES. THE GERMAN ATTACK ON BORJIMOW WAS REPULSED. SOLDIERS OF THE KAISER IN POLAND ARE HARD PRESSED, AND ARE SUFFERING ON ACCOUNT OF A SHORTAGE OF FOOD AND MUNI TION. THE AUSTRIANS IN THE CARPATHIANS ARE WEAKENING AL MOST TO THE POINT OF FAILURE. THE WEATHER IS BITTERLY COLD, AND HUNDREDS OF SOLDIERS, HORSES AND MULES HAVE EIEEN FROZEN TO DEATH. AUSTRIANS MAKING FOR RUSSIAN REAR. VIENNA, Jan. 30. Supported by heavy artillery, the Austrians are ad vancing toward Tarnow, attempting to gain the rear of the Russians in Gall cia and cut their lines of communication. In Poland the Germans are pushing their trenches nearer to Warsaw, and the Teutonic allies are gaining ground in the Carpathians. In Bokowina, the Russians have retreated to Kimpolunge. FRENCHMEN BOMBARD VON HERINGEN FROM CLOUDS. PARIS, Jan. 30. Today French aviators braved the terrific German fire and bombarded the headquarters of General Von Heringen, commander of the enemy's center at Laon, northeast of Soissons. Severe damage was done to the German works. 2f names, the number required to get a name on the official ballot of Day tona, requires but one sheet. Joe Os borne started bis petition by contribu ting ten cents toward the coffers of 1'nele Sam. Other candidates thought ItcrliapH there might be something in this stamp talk, so all but two of the candidates cancelled 10 cents' worth of stamps and placed them on the re spective petitions. Hut the money was a nice sort of philanthrophy to ward Uncle Samuel, so says Hayes Lewis, the collector of Internal revenue for the district of Florida, who holds that stamps are not required on peti tions to have names placed on the olli eial ballot. Perhaps the most valuable sugges tion voiced at Friday evening's meet ing of the Daytona board of trade was offered by I,. M. Walto. A few days ago a guest at Mr. Waite's hotel, tlio Despland, directed his attention to an advertising scheme now being effect ively used by the city of Savannah. In stantly tin alert Waite became Inter ested, and after Investigating the scheme determined to recommend It to the Daytona board of trade as a good one to adopt. The plan .Savannah is using is sim ple, consisting merely of a bunch of violets and a large envelope contain ing a number of post card views of tlio city, descriptive matter of Its attrac tions, and a most cordial Invitation to tourists to stop there and see the town before returning home. A, man at the Savannuh terminal station dis tributes the flowers and envelopes among the passengers who pass through on trains. Secretary Deacon was instructed to communicate with the F. K. C. railway ofliclals and ascer tain whether or not the same thing might not be dono for this place un der the auspices of the board of trade.
