Cards were enjoyed at the Palmet
to clubhouse on Tuesday afternoon
when the Social committee of the club
entertained at bridge and five hun
dred. A large number of ladies, mem
bers and guests of the club, gathered
to enjoy the afternoon, while a cher
ry fire I urned in the grate.
Mrs. E. T. Merrill, a season guest at
the Howard was in charge of the after
noon as hostess .assisted by Mesdames
Jessie fttlllnian, Fiske, Farmer, Alex
ander. Churchill.
The pn7e awards were won bv
Mrs. Elliott Wood. Miss Morrill and
Hiss Sykes.
Following the card game refresh
ments weie served in the tea room.
Reptiles Bother Travelers.
The big, hairy spider, the tarantula,
is bred in Mexico. It grows to be
six or seven inches in length and In
flicts a painful and serious sting,
which is supposed to have a disagree
able though not a fatal effect. Other
smaller species of spiders exist in
Mexico. The venomous snakes are
, usually easily shot by marksmen, and
the other harmful creatures are only
disagreeable when teased.

Mrs. R. E. Fenton was hostess on
Sunday evening at her pretty beach
cottage on South Atlantic avenue.
Daytona Beach, when she entertained
a few of her friends at an informal
supper party. Artistic table appoint
ments tnhanced the charm of the sup
per. Among the guests were Mrs.
John L. Koe of New York City, Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Laughliu. Raymond
C. Keeuey and C. Leverett Haydtn.

NIGHT AT BAPTIST CHURCH 4

Two very pleasing attractions will
be presented at the second gathering
of the Tourist club of the Baptist
church on Thursday evening. That
eminent American preacher and lec
turer. Dr. James J. Hall of Atlanta,
Ga., will deliver his lecture "The
Prince of Peace. As a prelude to the
lecture Ruben O. Williams, the "Hu
man Canary", will present several
numbers. Mr. Williams, although a
very great sufferer from the effects of
rheumatism is one of the world's
greatest artists, with his lips, whist
ling. He mimics the call of the birds
and brings home to the hearts of the
hearer the music of some of the
famous Bongs both sacred and secular.
On Sunday evening last, he captivat
ed the large audience at the church
with his rendition of "Where is My
Wandering Boy Tonight." The Tour
ist club will entertain on Thursday ev
enings every two weeks with a pro
gram that will attract and interest all.
The club has as its purpose the gath
ering together the visitors of the city
and the home folks with the thought
of being naturally helpful. Member
ship in the club is free and all are
invited to become members, both
tourists and citizens. The entertain
ments are all free and everybody will
be welcome. The roll qf membership
is to be found in the lobby of the
church and members are at liberty to
enroll at any time. The next number
for the season will be an illustrated
lecture and the fourth number will be
a playlet. Kiven by one of the classes
of the biMe school. A welcome always
awaits the people at the First Baptist
church.
