VILLIAtiS PAYS SENATOR ALEXANDER SOME COMPLIMENT In connection with the movement to separate Volusia county from a large tract of valuable farming lands In the northern end of the county for the formation of a new county with a part of the southern end of St. Johns county, Hon. David Sholtz, rep resenting Volusia county in the state legislature, on Wednesday wired his father. Michael . Sholtz. from Talla hassee as follows: "Flagler county bill introduced in the senate this morning takes off five hundred thousand dollars of Volusia county's taxable property, being en tire Haw Creek district. Find out wishes of Volusia. Fovored by St. Johns delegation also our ' senator." Mr. Sholts also wired T. F. Wil liams: "Flagler county bill introduced in senate this morning leaves your land in Volusia county. Will come before house committee probably Monday next. Advise." In reply to this Mr. Williams wired Mr. Sholts yesterday as follows: 'Replying to your telegram advis ing that Flagler county bill introduced, leaves my property in Volusia. I re fused to concur in such a proposition made two weeks ago and I now beg of you to fight any dea4 that takes part of Volusia county. I am advised that our senator will favor the bill and will do so because of a deal wherein he may be a new Judge in a new cir cuit We can not afford to. pay one half million dollars to boot between a good judge and a . (Censored.) T, F. WILLIAMS." D, II. S. BOYS LEAVE FOR ANNUAL MEET AT UNIVERSITY OF FLA. The Daytona High School Track team, with Everett Kallgren and Har ry Wylie, accompanied by Prof. H. Clay "Marks, supervising principal, left early this morning for Gaines ville for the annual declamation con test and track meet held at the Uni versity of Florida. The members of the track team are Wesley Snyder, William Pope, Alexander Stuart. Carlyle Moore. Sheldon Eastland. ForeBt "Snyder. Ray mond Green and Nicholas Young. Un der the direction of F. A. Turnquist, who has charge of the athletic depart meta of the high school, the boys have been training for months and all are in excellent condition. Everett Kallgren will represent the school in the declamation contest, having as his subject "That Something." Harry Wyllle's paper was chosen for the essay contest. The meet will be at tended by the track teams and rep resentatives of the various state schools and universities. The declamation contest will be held tonight, and the athletic events will take place tomorrow. The boys made the trip to Gainesville in cars. They will return Sunday. NEGRO PREACHER, OF MIDWAY DIED MONDAY Rev. Anthony Anderson, a well known negro of Midway, fell dead from heart failure this morning about 10:00 while walking on West Bay Btreet Fire Chief W. E. French responded to a call with the lung-motor but found that any assistance was of no avail. DAYTONA RED CROSS BRANCH TO CAMPAIGN FOR MEMBERS The executive board and the nomi nating committee of the Daytona branch of the American Red Cross met yesterday afternoon to nominate chairmen for the various committees. Dr. Weintraub, field worker for the Red Cross, met with the committee and explained numerous details of or ganization. Headquarters for the Daytona branch of the Red Cross will be the Palmetto club, which has been tendered to the organization by the executive board of the club. Lists for membership in the various classes, including first aid to the in jured, sanitation and hygiene dietet ics and surgical dressing wil be placed at the Otis book store Saturday morn ing. Men are also eligible to the class in first aid to the Injured. A membership campaign will be car ried on next week, and plans are be ing made by the committee to bring the membership up to many hundreds The third meeting of the Daytona branch will be held Tuesday night at 7:30 o'clock at the organization's of ficial headquarters, the Palmetto club. Black and family, who had been located in Mrs. Edith Holt's bungalow at the corner of -San Juan avenue and Wisconsin place, left the middle of "thia -week on their return to Indianapolis, Pad. 1 The Steamer Southland of the Nut ting line carried a very pleasant fish ing party to the Inlet Thursday. Quite a goodly number of fish were angled and luncheon was enjoyed at the pic nic grounds at the Lighthouse. Mrs. E. P. Conklin and daughter, Miss Jean Conklin, came to Daytona yesterday afternoon from Lotus for a visit with friends in this city and are at present with J. L. Lynch and daugh ter at their home on Fairview avenue. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Smith and son. Dr. J. Lancie Smith, returned yester day afternoon from a several days' visit at Miami, Palm Beach and oth er points down the Est Coast and Dr. Smith will leave tomorrow for his home in La Porte, Ind. Stevens were at Rockledge tor a couple of days this week, mak ing the trip in C. M. Rogers' car, Mr. Rogers going to Cocoa in connection with the inspection of the bridge from Cocoa to Merritts island which Mr. Stevens says is a most substantial structure all woodwork being of cy press with the exception of the piling and that is of pine re-inforced with concrete. CHIEF FRENCH EXPLAINS OPERATION OF LUNGMOTOR Chief W. E. French, of the local fire department, explained to an in terested group of men this morning at the fire station, the workings of the new Lungmotor which has re cently been purchased by the city for the fire department. This Lungmotor is the latest ma chine for saving life and is quite simple in its operation. It can be used anywhere, at any time, when artificial resuscitation is a necessity. It is much simpler than the pulmotor which the department has owned for several years and is better adapted for hurry calls. Read the Daily News for news.
