They are merely extravagant examples of things being done in the wrong way. They say there's a wrong way and a right way to do everything. Spohn has con sented to serve as chairman of the Civilian Relief Commltteo of the, Beaver County Red Cross Chapter, the duties of which are to aid, advise and assist in every way possible the families ot those men who have been called to the colors." We do not an ticipate a great need for this service In this district but it is tho duty of the Red Cross to be prepared for any emergency and the committee Is be ing organized to bo ready to take care ot any case that might arise. Thosewho may hear ot deserving cases coming under this service are asked to rc'port the same to Judge Spohn. -WARNING A, very slick swindling scheme has come to the attention ot the Pood Administrator. One man goes around thru a community spreading the ru mor that the government intends to confiscate a portion ot tho canned goods In each household. A day or two later a confederate of this party appears and offers to buy this prod uct at a very low price. The community Is warned against these particular swindlers. Tho gov ernment haB no intention whatever ot either confiscating or, purchasing any of the goods canned - by the housewives, but on the other hand urges everyone to inereaso, up to the -.limit ot their ability to consume tho tanning of all perishable products. r STRATTON D. BROOKS. CHRISTMAS DRIVE FOR 2,337 RED CROSS MEMBERS The American Red Cross is launching a Christmas drive to secure 15,000,000 new members during the week, December 17th to 24th inclusive. Beaver county's quota of that number is 2,337 and we want to "go over the top." Rev. L. L. Shaw has concented to serve aa campaign manager of the Christmas Drive and he hopes to have plans so well under way that during the week De cember 17th to 24th, every section of the county may be visited and canvassed for Red Cross memberships. Those who have al ready joined will be asked to join again as "Christmas members" und only $1.00 memberships will be asked for, though of course if one wants to give more, it will be acceptable. Talk up this Christ mas Drive. Tell your neighbors about it. Watch for advertising matter and posters. Let us all get the Red Cross spirit and make this a Red Cross Christmas. What more fitting time could be chosen for our service to humanity than at the Christmas season ? At that season of the year our hearts should burn with a desire to do something to bring about "Peace on earth, good will to men." Make the Chrismas Drive, your drive. Let each one appoint him self a "get another" club of one, and go out after memberships. Why not make Beaver county 100 per cent for the Red Cross? Ask every man, woman and child to join. If there are those who cannot afford to give the $1.00 for each member of the family, take the names of all such and perhaps there will be some who have no family or whose family is small and they may wish to give $1.00 in the name of those who cannot give. In all such cases, the Chapter is supplied with Christmas Remembrance Cards, with space for the names of the giver and one for whonvthe $1.00 is given, and these will be mailed by the secretary at Christmas time so that the recipient may know that he has been remembered at Christmas time by a gift to the Red Cross in his name, by a friend. If you want to give a dollar membership for one less for tunate than yourself, or $5.00 or $10.00 for five or ten member ships, send the money and the names of those for whom you wish to give to Mrs. E. L. Fickel, secretary of the Beaver County Chap ter, and she will see that the Christmas Remembrance Card be sent. This is a great opportunity for everybody to do something and give something for the grand .Red Cross work. Remember Beaver County's quota is 2,337. Let's "go over the top." Sophia says that they In tend to sot the paco for the rest of the Blanches ot the county, and If they keep going at this rate, others will certainly have to "go some" to keep pace with them. Tho people ot the Sophia neighborhood are thor oughly awake to the situation and may be depended upon to take care of all patriotic activities in a most satisfactory way. Hats off to Sophlal Wo congratulate and are proud ot you. Other Branches, get buByl Let there bo friendly rivalry to tho end that the Red Cross may profit nobly thereby.
