We called upon some of our advertisers and found them very hopeful of bettor times. They re port a good trade from Pickons, and oxpress a desire for the com pletion of the Pickens and Easley railroad, and think that it would gieatly increase thoir trado from this section. Messrs. T. A. Walker & Bro. are arranging to open up businoss at the same old- stand again, and will no doubt be heard from though the columns of the JOURNAL. We called in at C. McAlister's and found his clerks quite busy, among whom was our genial friend Bob Ambler, who is always glad to see his Pickens friends. Jones & Garrison has a large stonk, and a great variety, and are selling their goods at low figures. We would have been glad to have called upon all of our advertisers but did not have the time to do so. During our stay in Greenville we were the guests of Mr. J. Frank Carpenter, who was just 71 years old that day, (18th inetant,) Mr. Carpenter is the father of our wor thy representative, C. H. Carpon. ter, who is very highly esteemed by the people of Pickens. His fath or never loses a day from his bu siness, except prevented by bad weather. He works not from no cessity but from choice, as he has l, competency 'for the balance of his days, with something to spare. He is a remarkable man for his age, can walk 25 or 30 miles a day and is scarcely ever sick. In early life he spent a part of his time in Califorhia, mining, and it is quite interesting to hear him tell of his experiouce in the miner's camp.
