Mrs. Maka Anthony has resigned her position (with the Keowee Bank and Boone Carey has been appointed in her stead. F. L. Finley and family- have moved into the house[recently vacated by W. A. Edens apd family, who moved to Easley. Miss Emmie Griffin has resumed her duties as teacher in the Norris school, afterispending the:holidays with home folks at Pickens. Olar T. Hinton, treasurer-elect of Pickens county, wias in the treasurer's oflice a day or two last week getting familiar with the work. .1. Dave Stansell was) here one day last week. Greenville may suit him all right, but he certainly does look like he is at home in Pickens. Mr. Irvin Miller says he can tell us what has become of the old-fashioned man who used to go hunting about Christmas time. The game warden has got. him. Presiding Elder Turnipseed will preach at the Pickens Methodist church next Sunday, January 14, at 7.30 p. m., and while here will hold the first quarterly conference for 1917. J. Robinson is spending a while in Pickens. For several months he has been working for John D. Rockefeller in one of his large iron works in Pueblo, Col., and expects to return soon. H.W.Garrison of near Easley and T. A. Bowen recently sold a carload of Early King cotton seed to a Gaffney seed con cern for $100 a ton. The Gaffney com .pany will reship the seed to Texas. Carlisle Newton has accepted th< place as superintendent of the Pickem Lumber Co. plant, recently made va. cant by the death of Mr. Stevenson and has moved his family to Pickens. 1-1. J. Lewis, a venerable citizen o the Sunset section, was in town on busi ness Monday. His wife, who was strick en with paralysis and has been in bet about five weeks, does not improve fast, Miss Mary Morris left last week fo Columbia to resume her studies at Chi Y cora college. Miss .Morris was attend .ing school at Red Springs, N. C., when she suffered an attack of appendicitis last year. -Prof. W. Carson Hodges, principal of the Walterboro highsschool, and E. P. Hodges, a senior at the University of South Carolina, spent the holidays wvithi their parents, Rev, and Mrs. E'. 'T. Hodges, at Pickens. We are sorry to state that Const~able ,Julian is very sick at his home here with typhoid fever. His brother, George Julian, who is employed by the South ern Ixpress Co. at Greenville, spent Sunday with him. The local chapter U. D. C. will meet Fridlay af ternoon at 3.30 o'clock at the residlence ofjMrs. W. TI. McFall. A full attendlance is requested and all members wvho have not paid their dues should at tend this meeting prepared to do so. At the last nmeeting of the Pickens township singing convention the follow ing officers were elected to serve this year: lK. L. Henderson, president; Clifton Chastain, vice-president;' Mat Chastain, secretary. The next meeting will be held with Bethlehem church the third Sunday afternoon in January at 2 o'clock.
