Dance Last Night.

I roadway is in fairly good condition,

to do, except putting the Stateburg
road, the Fish road and the road from
Horatio to the river in good condition

now in use. While the Garner's Ferry
route would necesitate the rebuilding
of about three miles of road from
Stateburg to the swamp and the con?
struction of six miles of swamp road.
Richland County on the other hand
would have to Improve only seven
miles of road to make the Garner's
Ferry route a line highway. The Sum?
ter's Landing route would impose on
Richland the construct.on of four
miles of swamp road and the or six
miles of sand liill road.
The State Farm route Is declared
impracticable as a Sumter-Ith bland
enterprise, for the reason that a part
of the road would traverse Kershaw
County. The estimated distance to Co
lumbia by way of Garner's Ferry is 42.

Quite a number of offender! were
before Judge Hurst Tuesday morning
to answer various charges brought
against them. The majority of eases
were disposed of in short order, and
the city realized a large sum.
Ike Jones was found not guilty on
the charge of assault and battery.
Victor Buala was given a fine of $3
for disturbing the peace, Buford Hus
sey $3 for public drunkenness, C. X.
Broadway public drunkenness $5 or
j J. E. Coker, white, Wm. Horlbeck,
j colored, and Sam Glover, white, were
J placed on the green bench to answer
j the charge of public drunkenness,
j cursing and resisting arrest. Coker
and Glover plead guilty of drunken
I ness only. Horlbeck plead not guilty.
I Coker was given a fine of $15 or 30
j days, Horlbeck $10 or 20 days, and
I Glover $5 or 10 days.
j The most important case on docket
j Wednesday was that against John
I Williams, colored, who was charged
I with public drunkenness, cursing and
I resisting arrest. He was found guilty
and sentenced to pay a fine of $100 or

have known better. He created a dis
I turbance on the circus grounds and
j when Officer Ward arrested him he
I resisted violently and threatened to
1 shoot him with a rifle which he had
