The preaching at New Hope has been put off un;.l the third Sunday in August. The Rural School association gave a reception at the Ga"ult school house last Saturday evening from 7 to 11 o'eolck. EVery home in the district was represented except one or two and there was a large gathering. This was in honor of the teachers. The speakers were Rev. Felmont, Rev. Gault, Prof. Hope and the principal of the school, Mr. Erwin. All made appropriate speeches for the occasion. Refreshments were served and plenty of music furnished on piano, violin and guitar and every one enjoyed the occasion. Mr. R. C. White, who is on the railroad survey from Spartanburg county through Union was a visitor here Sunday to see his brother, Mr. R. L. White. I met Mr. M. L. Becknell, who is now living at CJhester at the Junction today. He has been to visit his father, Mr. B. M. Becknell. Mr. C. L. Gault, who has been in the hospital at Columbia, has been at home for a few days the past week. We are glad to learn that he did not have to stand the dangerous operation that he once thought he would have to statid. Rev. J. S. Thrasher tells me he will begin a protracted meeting at Elford Grove school house next Saturday, the 12th, preaching only at night. The public is invited to attend these services. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Edmonds wa's made glad to have a visitor at their home last Saturday. He was a baby boy, Emond, the Second.
