The Concordia Club enter
tained with its annual New
Years ball last Thursday even
ing when the club sponsored an1
other one of the delightful hos
pitalities for which the organi <
zation has become famous There
were no cotillons danced but the i
program recorded twentytwo
dances including twosteps
barn dances and waltzes and a i
number of extras were added to
these Supper was served down
stairs in the supper room by the
Ladies Aid Society of Temple
Beth Israel Mrs A RoufT was
chairman of the supper commit
tee and was assisted by Mes
dames P Tuteur Bettie Bonart

Sophie Lipper Covers were laid
for 100 guests and the tables
were beautifully decorated in the
holiday colors Each table had
for its centerpiece a fern and
the chandeliers were entwined
with smilax A splendid supper
of four courses was served

ELECTION
The election of officers for the
ensuing term of the Jewish Lit
erary Society took place on Sun
day January 3 at their rooms in
the Mason Building and the fol
lowing officers were elected

This is the third term of Mr S
Jf Westheimer has been elected
president of the society and it
is in consideration of his effi
ciency that the society unani
mously elected him president for
as Mr Dannenbaum remarked
Inasmuch as the nation has
elected a fat man with a smile
we should follow the good exam
ple and as S J Westheimer is
the only fat man among us with
the smile that wont come off we
cant help but elect him

Both vice presidents are earn
est workers for the society and
as such their qualifications for
executive emergency is assured
In Mr Finger the society has a
sincere member and worker and
we trust he will do justice to the
position so well fulfilled by Mr
Aronson the past year
Max Westheimer as financial
secretary can do nothing less
than make good for he has
shown his ability in the last
term Miss Roberts will see to
it that the funds of the society
will be safe as heretofore and we
feel confident of her ability to
perform the duties of her of
fice The board of trustees is
composed of members in whose
hands the welfare of the society
can well be placed and we look
forward to a successful adminis
tration In Archie H Cohen the
society has a youth who has
shown his worth before and as
a member of the Literary Com
mittee under Mr H J Dannen
baum assisted materially in ar
ranging literary programs of
the society Th e position is one
of honor and of duty and also
the duty of every member to co
operate with Archie in his ef
forts and hope he will have the
support of the entire society In
I Tiras as chairman of the
Amusement Committee will fur
nish the pleasure seekers with
the regular dances and other so
cial affairs which he has so suc
cessfully managed during his
past term Mr Phillopowski will
take charge of our library and
hereafter as soon as matter sare
straightened out the members
will have the privilege of loan
ing books to take home for read
ing and study Mr Dannenbaum
installed the officers elected and
paid compliments to all and
called their attention to their re
sponsibilities and wished them
success He also spoke a few
words of encouragement to the
society in regards to their liter
ary work and expressed the hope
that members would give more
of their time and attention to lit
erary matters in the future

MR AND MRS GREENBERG
SURPRISED
A few of the friends of Mr
and Mrs B H Greenberg sur
prised them last Sunday night
the occasion being the twenty
fifth anniversary of their mar
riage The crowd met at the
home of Mrs Margolis 1706
Bell avenue and proceeded to
the Greenberg home The cou
ple were taken so unawares as
to render them speechless A
lovely repast was partaken of
Mr S J Westheimer acting as
master of ceremonies All those
present responded with expres
sions of good will and esteem in
which Mr and Mrs Greenberg
are held Dancing music and
singing were the features of the
evening Among those who par
ticipated in the festivities of the

services of that evening there
will be a specially prepared mu

Barnstein our heartiest congrat
ulations and wish for him manj
more years of successful service
