News has been received here of the
death of Mr Julius Weil at Landau
Rheinpfalz Germany on April 18 He
was a brother of Edwaid and Simon
Weil of this city and is survived by a
wife and three children
Houston Lodge No 434 I O B B
met in the directois room of the Tem
ple Monday night The reports of the
delegates to the Grand Lodge were
deferred The attendance is increas
ing several new faces being noted
Mrs Augusta Freidlander relict of
the late Neuman Freidlander died in
San Antonio last Saturday night The
remains were brought to Houston The
funeral took place Monday and the re
mains were laid to rest in the Beth
Israel cemetery
At a well attended meeting of Hezel
Lodge No G08 I O B B Tuesday
night several applications for mem
bership were received Dr Willner
delivered a very interesting report of
the business of the Grand Lodge and
f Jno L Mendlovitz succeeded in arous
ing interest in behalf of a member
ship campaign Nomination of officers
took place and several visiting broth
ers spoke for the good and welfare of
the Order

tendered a benefit at the Majestic
Theatre Wednesday night by Mgr Mc
Farland The performance was at
tended to the capacity of the house
Mr S J Westheimer and Miss Bertha
Greenberg were awarded prizes for
selling the largest number of tickets
Mr and Mrs Sam Rosenthal left
Wednesday for New York where they
will remain a month prior to their de
partue to Russia where they will in
the future reside
Mr and Mrs Joe Gerson enter
tained Sunday with a dinner in honor
of the engagement of their sister Miss

SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF ZION
The regular monthly meeting of the
Sons and Daughters of Zion occurred
last Sunda yand in spite of the fact
that there was a concert at the City
park and likewise an outing of the
Sunday school teachers of the Adath
Yeshurun Synagogue the majority of
whom are members of the society was
pretty well attended
The society is preparing to celebrate
its first anniversary in June
At the close of the meeting Mr
Louis Daileywho is attending the med
ical college in Galveston delivered an
excellent talk on Zionism

Mr Daily was followed by the chair
man of the National Fund committee
Mr Archie PI Cohen who has recent
ly returned from a trip to Chicago Mr
Cohen proved to be quite enthusiastic
concerning the Zionistic outlook > in
Chicago 1
On May 10th there will take place
at the rooms of the Jewish Literary
Society a mock trial a breach of
promise case arranged by the chair
man Archie H Cohen Mr Henry J
Dannenbaum will act as judge The
plaintiff and defendant and attorneys
for both sides will be announced later
No one can afford to miss this event
and a large attendance is expected
