LOCAL. ITEMS Asst. State Engineer I. P. Frai ler, of Nogales, was in town Wed nesday. Miss Ethel Gribble, who has a position as stenographer in Tomb stone. came over last Sunday on a visit home. Mrs. E. F. Simpson has return ed from a several months visit to relatives at El Paso and Mesilla Park, N. M. Miss Martha Robbins, sister of Mrs. R. L. Lee. after an extended visit here, left this week for her home in Nevada. J. W. F-still and wife, of Tucson arrived in town yesterday return ing from a week’s auto tour. They are stopping at the Virginia. Miss Louise Sporleder. home de monstration agent, will be at St. David Monday till Friday of next week holding demonstrations. Mrs. C. S. Buffington left last Monday for Bisbee to join her hus band, who has accepted a position as instructor in the Bisbee High School. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Jones came in from their ranch in tlie Little Rincons Wednesday and left on the following day for Safford, ex pecting to be gone several davs. Next Sunday is Rally Davat the Presbyterian Church. Sunday school at 10 o’clock; promotion ex ercises by the children at 11. Every one is invited and urged to be pres ent. Herbert Colvin came in Thurs day from his ranch in the Little Rincons, and is staying a few days in town at the home of his parents. He reports the range in good con dition and cattle looking we 11... The Short Line Motor Co. has laid a new heavy flooring in its garage, thereby giving better sup port for heavy cars The tourist travel keeps up well and the gar age is getting a good run of busi ness, The sad news has been received by Mr. E. B. Holcomb and family of the death of the two-year old daughter of Mrs. Earl Clemmons, at Florence. Mrs. Clemmons was Miss Hazel Holcomb before mar riage, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Holcomb. The county tax tickets, which have just been sent out, may cause the taxpayer alarm on first sight on account of what seems extraor dinarily high figures The expla nation from the County Assessor’s office is, the figures got into the wrong line; shift them to the next line above. It now seems that the report of the change of time at midnight, Sunday, October 12th, was all a mistake. The Signal, taking the statement from an exchange and accepting it as reliable, published the date as the 12th. The law pro vides that the change take place at midnight Sunday, October 26th, when all clocks and watches are to be turned back an hour. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Shenn have returned from a visit of about three weeks w T ith relatives at Truscott. Texas. Mr. Shenn says the farm ers are prospering in that region, in the western part of the state, with an exceptionally good season, but that there has been the great est difficulty in securing sufficient help to take care of the crops. He also noted an interest shown by farmers in Arizona and thinks it probable some will come out to see what inducements this part of the country has to offer. Leg Broken Ben Soza, a well known young cattleman living down the river near Cascabel, had the misfortune last Saturday of having one of his legs broken while riding on the range. He was riding after a cow on a steep hillside when his horse fell with him, his leg being caught under the animal in the fall. He sustained a compound fracture of the limb between the ankle and knee. He was bronght into town and taken the next day to Tucson to the hospital, that his injury might receive the best attention. ' Dr. Imiith, Reliable Dentist. BENSON, j Oc ober 16, 17, 18. Mr. and Mrs. John Sabin, of Fairbank, were in town yesterday on a short visit. Mass at the Catholic Church to morrow morning at 9:30 o’clock. Rev. Fr. W. J. Leaver, Pastor. C. M. Plumb, of St. David, is the new blacksmith at the San Pe dro garage, in place of his brother Delbert Plumb, w T ho left last week for Salt Lake. Max Treu, Jr., out in the Little Rincons last Sunday succeeded in bringing down a fine white-tail deer, one of the largest of this spe cies secured in the country around Benson in a good long time. Maxey is a never-failing deerslayer, and brings in one of the animals every season when he goes out after them. May hew Schwab, who ac companied him also got his deer, but a smaller specimen. The deer were killed about eight miles from camp and had to be cached in a tree while the boys w T ent after their car to bring them in. A haunch of venson, and some over, from Maxey’s deer w 7 as received and highly appreciated by the Signal. The deer dressed 100 pounds. Under New Management Randolph R. Reuser, proprietor of the American Restaurant and Bakery, after three months in the business here, has decided to give a two-year lease on the property, outfit and good will and step out for that length of time. He says it it is not from lack of business for he has done well in the short time he has been running, but having a good offer decided to accept it. John McNeal, of Pomerene, is the lessee and will take control within the next few days. After a short stay on their homestead near Tres Alamos Mr. and Mrs. Reuser will go to visit the latter’s parents near Indian Oasis, after which they ex pect to locate in Phoenix.
