War Bond Sales
With bond purchases of all
types totaling $176,025 Coolidge
is still $22,000 away from its
$198,000 quota according to fig
ures compiled late yesterday af
ternoon by Y. C. White, district
committeeman. While Pinal
county is one of the few Ariz
ona counties still far from reach
ing its quota the state of Arizona
is over the top as reports from
Maricopa, Pima and other quota
bursting counties made favor
able reports to state chairman
Walter Bimson late yesterday.

School Xmas Party
Is Slated Dec. 19
A joint Chris .mas party and pro
gram will be held by Kenilworth
School and Kenilworth Parent-
Teacher Association Tuesday night.
December 19, in the school audi
torium. The program is scheduled
to begin at 7:30 p. m. There will
be a musical playlet under the di
rection of Mrs. Capitola Kyser,
school music director, based on the
theme of two orphans in search
of Christmas, who wander into a
cathedreal where, a Chrißtmas
church rehearsal is in progress.
Fifth grade pupils will present a
Christmas playlet under the direc
tion of their teacher. Mrs. Jaunita
Golson.

! Santa Clause will appear with
' special surprises and treats for the

Coolidge USO Club
Plans Christmas
Activities Here
Christmas plans at Coolidge USO
include an evening of tree decorat
ing Thursday night, December 21.
Christmas night there will be a
buffet supper, Christmas carols and
other entertainment. The club will
be open to service men, as usual,
throughout the holidays.
A formal dance is planned for
Friday evening. December 29. Mu
sic will be furnished by an orches
tra from Marana Army Air Field.
Junior USO hostesses will attend
an informal dance at the non com
missioned officers club, Coolidge
Air Base, Wednesday night, Dec
ember 20.
Any Coolidge family wishing to
invite a service man to Christmas
dinner In their home is requested
to contact Mrs. Avis Hobby, Cool
idge USO director, so arrangements
can be made. The USO has re
ceived inquiries from several ser
vice men who are wondering what
their chances are for a real "home
cooked Christmas dinner," Mrs.
Hobby says.

To Aviation Cadet

Miss Betty Preece of Reno, Nev
ada. a former Coolidge-Florence
resident, and Harvey Eugene Tid
ball, naval aviation caidet, wfere
married recently at the home of the
bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. J.
Preece at Reno. The ceremony,
which was witnessed by relatives
and friends, was performed by
Bishop Eldon Wittwer of the LDS
church. Miss Dorothy Johnson of
Coolidge was maid of honor.
The groom is the son of Mrs.
Gladys Tidball of Reno and Sam
uel Tidball of Ruth. Nevada. Fol
lowing a wedding dinner, the young
couple left for the eagt,
Cadet Tidball will be stationed.

• A. J. Fine and son Roswell of
Flagstaff were guests at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cohen from
Sujiday to Wednesday. Roswell,
Mrs. Cohen’s nephew, is en route
to the University of Wisconsin to
continue his medical course.

Proves Big Success
The rummage sale held by Cool- ]
idge Womans Club Saturday after

to those in charge. Proceeds will

weekly teen age parties held at the
1 club. Those in charge of the sale
were Mrs. C. L. 'Skousen, Mrs. Paul
Loucks and Mrs. Wayne Hall.

At Dinner Here

Mrs. Lucille Kelleher announced
the engagement of her daughter,
Pauline Hopkins, to J. Bradford
Brown of Buffalo, New York, at a
recent dinner given at the home of
Mrs. N. V. Pippin.
Mrs. Hopkins has been employed
for some time at Coolidge Beauty
Shop. Mr. Brown is employed at
the Southern Pacific depot here.
Their wedding is planned for early
January.
Guests were Private and Mrs.
William Meadow's, Mrs. Helen Da
vison, Mrs. Noro Beagle, Julia Hop
kins, Arthur Kempton of Phoenix
and Charles Kendrick of Tucson.

S/SGT. LOWELL T. TRASH
writes Coolidge friends from New
Guinea to say hello and let them
know he is o. k. He was in the
Philippines for a short time, he
says, “but sort of got slapped a
round a little and I am in, a hospi
tal now with a broken jaw bone.
I am getting better all the time,
though and hope to be back after
those yellow rats by the first of
the year.” Trash made his home
in Coolidge for several years before
he entered the service and was op
erator of a Richfield Service Sta
tion here. His parents live in Ar
kansas. but Sgt. Trash writes that
he is thinking of returning to Cool
idge to make his home. “I have
been saving my money and will be
ready to go in' some business of
my own when all this is over.”

S. Marine Corps, was married to
Miss Dorothy Dameron of Washing
ton, D. C., on November 25, at her
home, it was made known here this
week. Pfc. Ashley is the son of
