FRIDAY. FEBRUARY 15. 1946 Walter F. Schell, Jr. Receives Discharge At Fort McArthur Cpi. Walter F. Schell. Jr., has received an honorable discharge from the I* S. Army at Ft Mc- Arthur. California, and returned home Tuesday to resume civilian life. Schell served both in the Euro pean theater and the South Pacific with the famed 97th Division. He ha* been in the service for three years and has been awarded the European theater ribbon with two campaign stars, the Asiatic- Pacific ribbon, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. J Desert Womans Club Holds Luncheon And Program Meet Friday The Desert Womans Club met Friday in the home of Mrs. J. A Roberts for a one o’clock luncheon and program. Co-hostesses were Mrs. E. A_ Sturgeon. Mrs. Sam Wynn, and Mrs. Karl Smith. Nick Hayduke was the after noon's speaker. His subject was a resume of various experiences he’d had while serving with the army in Italy. France and Germany. Mrs. W. H. Farnsworth was pro gram chairman. Salute to the flag was given, fol lowed by “God Bless America" sung in unison. Roll Call was ans wered by each member giving a brief account of customs in other countries. Mrs. Steve Christensen, president, presided at a short busi ness meeting. A report on the Youth .Conference held recently at Phoenix was made by Mrs. Farns worth. Each member was requested to call on. or send a card to. someone ill during the next month. Roll call at the club’s next meeting will be answered by accounts of these ac tivities. A book case has been purchased by the club in which to place ap-. proximately 50 volumes given In memory of the late Mrs. Katherine Mac Rae. The collection contains fiction, travel, philosophy and bi ography and will form the nucleus |of a library being started by the club. New members welcomed into the | club were: Mesdames Hubert Odom. Sellers, PHM 3/c, re turned home Thursday with an honorable discharge after 15 months in the South Pacific. Sellers served with navy medi cal corps attached to the ma rine corps. He has been award ed the Purple Heart, the Presi dential Division Citation for two Jima, the American Thea ter ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon with campaign star, and the Victory Medal. Sellers is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Sellers. Coolidge residents for many years. He enlisted in December of 1943 when he was 17. R. W. (Jack) Stewart Home From Service In South Pacific T/5 R. W. (Jack! Stewart has ’received ap honorable discharge from the IT. S. army at Ft. McArthur. California, after nine months service with an engineers construction battalion in Manilla and Japan. Stewart entered serv ice February 7. 1944. He has been awarded the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon two campaign stars, the Philippine Liberation ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. His wife, nee Kathryn Monday. 1 and two children have been mak j ing their home with her parents i west of Coolidge. Stewart is the j son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Stew j art of Chandler .who recently pur -1 chased a ranch southwest of Coo lidge. The ex-serviceman and his family will make their home here. o Housewarming For Leroy Shoemakers Sunday Afternoon Mr. and Mrs Leroy Shoemaker were honored with a surprise housewarming at their ranch home west of Coolidge Sunday afternoon The Shoemakers, who were called jto town on an errand, found num erous guests and a table heaped .with Rifts awaiting their return. Davis. ♦La Verne Odom, student at Colo rado Womans College, was recently initiated into the Womans Athletic Association at a candle-lighting ceremony held in Foote Hall. Miss Odom was one of 15 students Ini tiated into the WAA. Requirements for membership are based on the point system. Miss Odom is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Odom. ♦ Mrs. W. B. Newcomb is up and around following a week's illness due to a throat infection. ♦Louie Fuller of Glendale, Cali fornia, is visiting his sister. Mrs. M. N.
