There is at present great activity all along the Gila valley farming district, preparatory to the har vesting of crops. Tha crops, both wheat and barley, have not looked ns promising for many seasons East as they now do. While the igh water has caused great dam age to the different irrigating canals, still all are now in good order, and water for irrigating purposes is abundant Sheriff Crawford received from Governor Tritle on the 9th inst a requisition on the Governor of New Mexico for Frank Tarbell, who was recently arrested by the authorities in Albuquerque. Deputy Sheriff Randall left last Thursday to secure his man, but upon arriving at Albuquerque found that Tarbell had been turned loose. At last accounts Randall was diligently hunting his man, with fair prospects of capturing hi ill That Clifton, Morenci and Dun can in connection with Lordsburg are to have the benefits of religious services is now a settled fact The Rev. Mr. Sumner, of Las Vegas, writes to the Clarion that a cler gyman will shortly arrive from the East to assume charge of the somewhat scattered but very prom ising field. The gentleman will be ortnodox and. Protestant, and the Clarion trusts, nay we are confi dent that the citizens of the vari -ous towns will exert themselves to aid the cause, both by regular at tendance upon the services, and by contributing liberally of their worldly goods, for a clergyman, in order to perform his duties well, must receive not only moral but financial support Monday evening, upon receipt of intelligence of the Indian out break, no time was lost in the towns in this portion of both Ter ritories in conveying the news to the different ranches and isolated mining camps. From Clifton, Duncan,' Carlisle, in fact, in all of the towns, citizens mounted swift-footed steeds and sped away in the darkness, and during the night the inmates of many newly made homes were, aroused by the clatter of horse's hoofs and a friendly helloo, and then the story was told in a few words, "the Apaches are on the war-path," and before they could fully realize the terrible truth the brave rider and his gallant steed again rode on, to warn others beyond. Well may each and every pioneer in tho Southwest ask the question, How much louger are the red devils to" be cared for during the winter season, fattened and pampered, to prey upon defence less settlers as soon as the grass is Ct fur rVfd in the snrirr; The Indian War. Capt .Pierce, 1st inft, with AL bieber, ' chief,' and 82 Indian scouts, arrived in Morenci this (Wednesday) noon. The Captain reports having come -direct from San Carlos agency, via Eagle creek, aa cnt no fresh trails, which shoi?3 that Geronimo and his bucks, who must be south of Clifton ere now, have takeh no southward route- through this county to reach Mexico. Jackey, E com pany, 1st infantry, was assassi nated in Whipple Barracks, Pres cott, on the night of May 15th. More silver claims will be worked this season in Globe dis trict than ever bofore since the camp started. So says the Silver Belt F." M. Murphy, Arizona's Com missioner to the New Orleans Ex position, is expected to arrive at his home in Prescott about the 25th. Theodore F. White, who was recently appointed cattle quaran tine inspector for Southern Ari zona, has declined the appoint ment W. A. Vincent, of Las Vegas, formerly of Illinois, has been ap pointed Chief Justice of New Mexico, in place of Axtell, re moved. Thirty applicants for the Gov ernor's chair of New Mexico are in awful suspense awaiting the appointment of some one of tbe numbor to the coveted position. Tho Clarion is of the opinion that James Mullen, of Silver City, will be the lucky man. A number of teams that have been employed freighting between here and Globe have pulled out for other points. Their return may be expected soon, however, if there be truth in the report that the Old Dommion Company has been reorganized. Willcox Stockman. A Solomonville correspondent writes tbe Clarion that the an nouncement that Pablo Garcia had been pardoned was received at that place with much pleasure, not alone by the immediate frionds of Garcia, but by officials and others who, knowing the facts upon which application for execu tive clemency was based, believe that it should have been granted. Five hundred men wanted at the Tip Toy to drink milk ponchos. '. ; - UERONIWS BAG 1 1 .1 : Of Cnirleahoaa and Their Chief Leave tbe Reservation Their Ietinatlon Believed to be the Hlerra Xadrea. . Shortly before 6 o'clock p. m. on Monday last two telegrams were received in Clifton which caused a decided sensation. The tenor of both was tp the same effect The first was dated Fort Apache and was signed Wade. Lieutenant-Colonel, the second was from Fort Thomas and was signed Mills, Major Command ing. I lie contents of both were the same fifty Chiricahua bucks under Geronimo had loft the reservation on the 17tb, and had taken tbe Eagle Creek trail Each stated their destination to bo Mexico, and added that troops were in pursuit At the time of writing (Tuesday evening) nothing further in re gard to the outbreak has come to hand, but it is unreasonable to suppose that the savages have not committed depredations, and that tne whi e men they may have encountered have not fallen vic tims to their savage and murder ing propensities. The (Jhiricauuas number not more man oau ail tola, ducks, women and children, and the number of warriors who have left the reservation is stated to bo but fifty. But the amount of deviltry this number can commit is almost impossible to conceive. The CUiiricanuas for tne past year have been kept in the inline diate vicinity of Fort Apache, under the watchful eye of .Lieut Gatewood. There have bjen to complaints made by them, and they were apparently satisned with the treatment they received. t ort Apache is distant by trail from Clitton ninety miles, and it is more than probable that by this time (Wednesday morning) tne Indians are nearly as far south as the southern facinc ltaiiroad. SHalng Xoles. The hoisting machinery and engine will be in place this week at the Detroit A great deal of lagging has been brought to the Longfellow recently from the vicinity of the CoronadoTnine. The Alaska continues to look well. On the second level last Srturday they struck a fine body of SO per cent ore. The copper ore in the Morning Star is a high grade black oxide. Parker & Whalen are getting out the same to 6ell to the Arizona Copper Company. Numerous ore platforms are being constructed on the line of the Coronado railway, on which ore will be deposited by pack trains from the King and other mines. The claim "7.30," recently opened near the Queen, that na tive copper was strucK in last week, continues to produce the same. It belongs to tne Arizona Copper Company, and was opened in tlie bed of Chase creek. Brown & Cole, the lessees who are working the El Paso, in the ace of the 100 foot tunnel, have struck the body of ore which was uncovered on the surface eO feet above. The ore is black oxide, carrying a strong trace of gold. Mathison & Morris have com pleted their contract ot building a wagon road to the White Hawk uiino from the Metcalf, three- quarters of a mile in length, and are now hauling ore to the head of the incline. They have a con tract to deliver 2,o00 tons. The White Hawk belongs to the Ari zona Copper Company. The ore is quarried, not mined, and is of an exceedingly good grade. Mr. m. lionnell has struck gold-bearing rock of the same quality as that found in the Morning btar on a claim recently located by him in the same vi cinity, and distant from it 3,000 feet W hat work he has done to date has developed a vein of free milling gold ore tbe width of tbe shaft The formation is horn blendic quartzose, and the prop erty is a most promising prospect The shaft which he is sinking is now down twelve feet Messrs. Guthrie, McDcrmott and Dinneen deserve to realize handsomely on their property in this district and it is but a ques tion of time when they will be enabled to do so. By their indi vidual efforts they have driven over 1,400 feet of tunnel on their mines, as follows: Alaska, 450 feet; Tip-Top, 150 feet; Frisco, 450 feet; Delta, 50 feet; Lime stone, 75 feet; King, 80 feet; El Paso, 200 feet They have at present eleven men in their em ploy. Last Friday afternoon, while the Mexican population of the Pueblo Viejo valley were cele brating the feast of San Isidro at the head of the San Jose ditch, Epitacio Perria was shot in the back by Juan Trejillio and in stantly killed. They wore in a wagon together with several oth ers, who were firing pistols in honor of the occasion, and it is claimed that the fatal shot was entirely accidental, while some think otherwise. Justice Fournes, who was present, caused the arrest of Trejiiliol and charged him, before Justice Frazee, with mur der. Tho examination of the case commenced Saturday, and was concluded Sunday, District At torney Bolan appearing for the Territory and Judge Goodwin for the defendant At the suggestion of the District Attorney, the de fendant was held for manslaugh ter, and his bail set at $500.
