3&"The Leading Mercantile House of the Southwest.-!! Stage THE CLIFTON CLARION. omeroy s me. WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 10, 1?8T. The best material for fattening fowls 13 sweet potatoes anil corn meal. IIDAUER, WORiSER & fiOl'Y, Samuel .1. TilJen left property in England valued at from ?G00, 000 to $800,000. Some years ago it was the style for people to tlress up ; of lato we Dotice that, fashionable ladies are inclined to dress down. "I want to place a column ad. in yenr paper," he said to the editor, "calling attention to my special brand of 'Old Raven' whisky." "All right, sir," responded the editor briskly, 'Til be at your service in a moment." Then be went to the speaking-tube and whispered to the foreman, "Kill that editorial on 'The Curse of Hum.' " Dr. Rudd of this city is a man of new ideas. He is the only man in Albany who puts a fly-net un der the belly of a horse instead of on its back. The doctor says that the belly is mnch more tender than the back of any animal, and for that reason a horse is more tor mented by flies on the under por tion ot his body than he can ever be on his back. We begin to think that the doctor is right, and that the world has been " going it blind " on fly-nets for moro than a century. Albany Post It was at-w Bungalow dinner at London, last Sunday, and the con versation turned upon sleepless ness and troubled nights. One of the guests, a parson, up and spake : "Really," said he, "1 don't know where you would find a qui eter sleeper than I." Whereupon Mrs Parson, whose half tumbler of claret-cup had been twice tilled up, replied: " John, John, how can you say so 7 Yhy you're the most rest less man I ever slept with!" They had a baby show in a French town lately which brought forth some remarkable corres pondence. One enterprishing but behind-tho- times Frenchwoman wrote to say that if they had only given nine months' notice she would have sent the star baby Another foramina creature beggbd the management to postpone the show four months, as she was not quite ready to compete, and still another called time on two months. Lovely woman to the front, as usual San Francisco Report. Parties who havo recently re turned from a visit to the north ern part of. the Territory report that large numbers of migratory stock are at present being grazed in that section by the cattlemen of Southern Utah. No taxes are paid on such herds, either in Utah or Arizona, as the owners drive them across the dividing line so as to scape the tax assessors of both Territories. It is an ontrage to have the cattle, sheep, etc, of other Territories feed on the ranges that are beginning to be '.badly needed by our people with out any compensation whatever. Rut how to redress the wrong is a problem that yet seeks solution. Hoof and Horu. There are several remedies for perspiration of the feet, and here are some of them : Apply with a sponge, without rubbing, a solu tion of thirty grains each of burnt alum and boric acid in one ounce of rose water just as soon as the bhoes and stockings are removed. Repeat every two or three days in the evening. A pharmacist, who regards the difficulty as due to fermentation caused by the paste used by shoemakers for fastening insoles into shoes, directs a pow der, consisting of about equal parts of boric and salicylic acid?, to be sprinkled in the shoes, and we are told the trouble ceases. Another pharmacist, who has de voted considerable attention to tho difficulty in question, highly recommends the application of a mixture of ono part of tli9 oleate of zinc with ten parts of zinc. Yiennse Las mad& some careful observations concerning this dis tressing infirmity. He alleges that the condition may be en tirely and permanently cured by rubbing into the feet finely pow dered subnitrate of bismuth. The action of the drug appears to be purely local. It toughens the bkin, and at the same time proba bly modilies tho character and i-mouat of perspiration by affect ing the glauds. It is possible, the writer adds, that bismuth lias some influence npon the capillary circulation of tho parts. There are some iu which the excessive 1 erspii-utiou continues in spite of the treatment, but even then bis muth deprives tbo perspiration of its foetic odor and relieves the ten iVna'ss.
