Carrier pigeons have flown at the rate of 111 miles an hour, for seven hoars. The shock of the Granada earth quake in 18S4 traveled at the rate of 1,800 miles an hoar. There has been an interesting discussion among railroad men, both in San Francisco and in the East, as to which were the three or four heaviest locomotives built in this country. A very promi Bent San Francisco official says the Canadian Pacific has the heaviest It weighs 160,000 pounds. It is used to haul freight through Kicking Horse pass, in the Rocky mountains. The Southern Pacific has the next largest, weighing 154,000 pounds. Then there is a locomotive on the Northern Pacific of 145,000 pounds. The Brazilian Government had an enginn built a few years ago. which is the fourth largest, weighing 144,000 pounds. An immense photograph, said to be one of the largest in the world, has been taken of the United States Treasury. It meas ures seven feet by four. The total production of coke' i n the United States in 1S86 was 6,833,0S8 short tons. This is the largest production overreached in the United States.
