As llio Democratic National
Convention is to be bclJ on Jnco
5lh it iH-booves our Territorial
Central Cotuinitleo to bo moving
in the ruattKi- of holding .1 conven
tion for tho purpose of selecting
delegates to represent ns nt that
convention. It is troo it is some
what early to make this r.n":ges
tion, but. such things had better
not be left until the last moment.
The following gentlemen com
prise the Democratic Territorial
Central Committee:
Apnehe J. L. llubbcll, Harris
Baldwin. Cochise L. Llinn,
J. II. Tevis, Ji'.nies Coylc. Gila
W. A. Holm.. W. A. Griflin

P. J. Eolan is tho chnirman and
Chas. Driscoll secretary of the
committee.
The last territorial convention
directed that tho delegate to the
national convention be chosen by
a terriiorii.1 convention to be
called for thnt purpose, tho dele
gates to such convention to be
chosen by tho counties respectively
Therefore it is only fair to
presume, that the delegates to the
convention will bo apportioned t'j
tho different cor.nties on the basis
of tho vote cast for Marcus A
Smith, Democratic candidate fr
delegate to Congress at tho last
general election Tho vote of each
county wiil bo of interest, which
was asjfollows:
Yavapai Democratic 1101, Ilo
pnblican 038. Pinal-Dem. -10,
Kop. 3S0. 'Mohavo Dem. 221
Fiep. 202. Pima Deal. S-'V3, Kcp
728. Maricopa Dem. 802, P.ei'.
677. Graham Dem. 57S. Rep.
2GG. Gila Deaa. 203, Hop. 216.
Cochise Dem. 120S, Hep. 512.
Apacho Dcm. 5S5, Eep. 325.
Yuma Dem. 1C0, Rep. I'iS.
Acting r.pon the presumption
that the apportionment of k-It -gatos
will by based upon the vo!
cast for the head of tho ticket, and
that the basis will be ono delegate
for every 100 votes and fractijti
exceed: rsj; 50, the representation
would fca as follows: Yavapai 12,
Pical 4, llohave 2, Pima 9, Mari
copa 9, Graham C, Gila 15, Cochise
12, Apache 6, Yuma 2, total (ix
A report lias been circulated
throughout the territory the past
week that a band of eight Indians,
supposed to be from the San
Carlos reservation, had fired upon
J. C. Jones of Aravaips, who Lad
been hit bnt nut injured by a
spent ball. Troops from Forls
Grant. Lowell end Ilaachnca were
immediately started in pursuit of
the hostile party, but up to the
time of going to press no farther
particulars have reached ns. It
has been reported that the author
ities at San Carlos claim that
there are no Indians from the
reservation missing, and r.pon this
report a theory is base 1 that the
party who fired upon 3Ir. Jones 13
the same which has beou depre
dating in liexico, being a remnant
of Geronimo's band that escaped
capture. This seems hardly
probable, Lcwever, and a theory
to our mind mere probable, pro
viding there is a band out, is that
it is a small party of bucks dis
satisfied with the action taken by
the authorities at San Carlos iu
relation to the recent Liiliug,
when considerable feeling was
manifested by a portion of the
Apache3 because; Captain Pierce
would not deliver up to them tho
murderer. Still another theory,
and perhaps tho mo.t probable, is
that a mistake has been made and
there are no Indians out at ail.
