f 15M feet abeve sea level, situated near the
ttlla river, twenty-six miles northwest of the
railroad station of Casa Grande, with which
it is connected by an elegantly equipped
duily stag-e line. Going- aau coming stages

Passengers are allowed a short time te in
spect them. There are many handsome pri
vate residences in Florence, several 'brick
tores, gaA hotel,. aa excellent graded
school employing; four teachers, churches,
secret societies, a Commercial Club, a news
paper (theenly one in the county), and the
baaasemest court ihoasn in the Territory.
Here is held the United States Court for the
district eempesed of Gila, Graham and
final counties. The streets ere lined with
hade trees, which impart an air of eomiort
on the warmest days.

alkali, is a deep, rich pray ash, especially
adapted to the growth of the prune, olive,
almond, peach, fie, pear, apricot and fruits
f all kinds, which pay largely on the invest
ment. It is also the natural home of alfalfa,
which grows in the 4Pot prelific manner.

fruits have been cultivated to a limited
extent; there are a number of orange trees
in the neigh horboed of Florence which bear

The absence of fogs and nightly dews is a

unsightly scale-bug, and the fruits of the
Taller are all bright and olean. All the agri
'ultural products of temperate and semi
tropic sones are easily grown here, the long

double or treble the productive value of the

land with a pumping system of irrigation,
which is said to be successful on small tracts.
However with the completion of the Butte
reservoir, pumping will be a thing of the
past, and it is only mentioned here for the
purpose of showing what can be done, and to

nature has built the abutments in ever-living
rock, and all that is left for man to do is

the gorge being only separated by a paltry

40 000 square miles, or larger than Maine and
MassachusetU combined. Therainfall is suf
ficient to till the reservoir twice a year, and
the land to be brought under cultivation is
practically limitless. This may read like a
Fairytale but it is every word true, and ha
been verified time and again. .

the County of Graham, Territory of Arizona,.-
that Aug-ustine Chacon, who was convicted of
murder end sentenced to be executed at the '
May term of the District Court, 1895, at Solo--monville,
in the County of Graham, ths judg
ment of said court afterward being affirmed
by the Supreme Court of the Territory, and'
the said Chacon being resentenced to be ex- -ecuted
on the 18th day of June, 1897, and -
Whereas, I am officially informed that
said Ancrustine Chacon did, on the 9th day o
June, 1897, escape from the jail at Solomon-'
nillein the said County of Graham. '
: Now, therefore; I, B. J. Franklin, Govern-'
or of the Territory of Arisona, by virtue of
the power and authority in me vested, do'
hereby offer Five Hundred ($500) Dollars Re- -ward
for the apprehension of said fugitive
from justice and his detention in any jail in
the United States.
