DEATHS
MORENO
Lawrence Herbert Moreno was killed Nov, 17 when struck by a cor while walking on the road
to Continental, about a mile south of the Nogales highway. The 27-year-old resident of
Cowlic attended St. Anthony school and Sherman Institute, He is survived by his widow
Marita, and two children-Marcellina and Lawrence Jr. Funeral services were held at Sells
on Nov. 21.
XAVIER
Juan Xavier, 73, died Nov. 10 at the Sells Indian hospital. She is survived by a daughter
Cleraencia Ignacio, and grandchildren including Pauline Valenzuela, Mary Havier Anhill, and
Joseph Anhill, all of Tucson. Funeral services were held at Sells. Mrs. Xavier had lived
in Tucson for many years until her recent illness. She was originally from Sells.
GARCIA
Elliott Garcia, 2-month-old son of Richard and Antonia Flores Garcia, San Xavier, died Nov.
20. He was born Sept. 18 in the San Xavier clinic.
GARCIA
Irene Angela Garcia, 42, died Nov. 24 at the Sells Indian hospital. She is survived by her
widower, Thomas Garcia of Picacho, and her father, Jose J. Lopez, Sells. Funeral services
were held at Sells on Nov. 27.
ANTONE
Leontine Antone, 51, died at his home in Chiawuli Tak on Nov. 26 and buried Nov. 23 in the
same village. He was a former chairman of Schuk Toak district council. He is survived by
two sons-William and Louis-and by four daughters-Celestine Enriquez, Queen’s Well, 0 Frances
at Phoenix Indian school, and Ruth and Della at home,
SARAFICIO
Baby girl Saraficio, daughter of Lawrence and Sophie Saraficio, died a few moments after
birth at the Sells Indian hospital on Nov. 26, Funeral services were held at Box Stand.

Wilfred A, Lopez, and James M, Lohenia, both of San Xavier, recently received jail sentences
and were fined when found guilty of drunk driving charges in Tucson,

Bernice Horace, Hopi, has been transferred from Sells Indian hospital office staff to
Sacaton, One non-Indian Public Health employee has also been transferred. Eight other
Sells hospital employees are expected to be dropped or transferred soon,

Penny Karty, daughter of William Karty, has resigned her position with the Agency in Sells
and hopes to get employment in the Phoenix area,

William Domingo, who has undergone a series of operations, has returned to the Sells Indian
hospital after surgery at St. Mary’s hospital in Tucson, A resident of Santa Rosa village,
the 10-year-old attends classes at Indian Oasis school whenever possible,

To set up a more modern bookkeeping system for Tribal finances, Bert Willadson of Tucson
has been working in the tribal office recently. Hb"was an accountant for Hughes Aircraft
for 13 years. Mary Jane Vasquez is the Tribal treasurer.
