The Doings of The "Week in Holbrook and Surroundiug Country. - J. Y. Lee was down from Wood ruff Saturday. County Treasurer Richards weut to Williams Tuesday ou business. J. T. Jones has leen passing the greatest portion of the week in town. Parson Williams was up from Penzance Sunday, circulating among the boys. Jim Donohue and James Bowen were in from the' Petrified Forest Monday. Burton Mossman was up from the Aztec headquarters Tuesday, on business. Parley Richards is acting county treasurer during thesbsence of J. II. Richards. Joseph Fish went to Suowflake Saturday evening, returning Mon day morning. Harvey Wimmer spent Tuesday in town, having recently arrived from Springerville. Bert Potter spent Saturday in town, coming in from the southern part of the county. J. L. Jackson went to Flag staff Monday evening. He expects to be away for about ten days. Monday night we had another snowstorm. There is uow no com plaint of lack of fallinsr weather. George Bryan was down from Pinedale Tuesdav. He savs thev 1 have had lots of rain up there lately. J. L. Fish and family went to Piuedale last Friday on a visit. Miss Mercy McAllister accompanied them. It is rumored that a wedding will soon take place in town. The con tracting parties are well known throughout this section. George W. Scheffiin, an old timer in Holbrook, arrived Wednesday morning, and has been shaking hands with acquaintances of "auld lang syne." School closed Tuesday in the Hol- DrooK district. l wo rooms were Mr. Travis, formerly operator here, stopped off a few days last week on his way back from Albn- j querque, where he has been treated for appendicitis. The sheepmen have just returned from the Gila where they have beeu shearing their sheep. They report that their sheep wintered well in that section. The people of Apache county are mourning the loss of two of their most prominent young men, Frank iLesueur and Gus Gibbons, who were killed by outlaws ou Tuesday, Mar. 27," about fifteen miles north of St. Johns. After the killing was done the fugitives turned their course and went back southeast to Frisco, N. M., and stole seven head of horses from the citizens of Frisco on the night of March 29. It it now reported that they are ' headed for Mexico, but Beeler's posse will be far-enough over the mountain so that the snow storm will not interfere with their trailing.
