F. A. Zuck, of Winslow, spent
Sunday at the old home.
Harvey Colcard returned to
1'lcasant Valley Tuesday.
Louie Guhcy, of Winslow,
spent most of the week here.
Several soldiers came in Thurs
day morning, going to Fort
Apache.
Mrs. Beall, who has been visit
ing friends at Kcams Canyon,
left for the east Thursday.
Mrs. M. J. Harris has been
quite sick this week. Mr. Harris
has also been under the weather.
J. W. Ellison came in from
Ellison Wednesday, and left for
Albuquerque Thursday morning.
J. I'. Burdett went up to Nava
jo Springs Sunday on business
connected with his office of live
stock inspector.
Ross E. Crouse passed through

river, where he will act as tem

The song services held at the
schoolhouse Sunday evenings are
very interesting and should be
more generally attended.

Everyone in Holbrook is ex
pected to attend the ball Mon
day. It is not an invitation
affair, as some might suppose,
only a few having been sent to
friends in neighboring towns
who might want to attend.
The Holbrook school will close
,Friday, March 28. Prof. Young
has jriven universal satisfaction
and is an able instructor. We
understand that Mr. Young will
teach a couple of months at Sil
ver Creek during April and May.
It has been suggested that
children under fifteen years of
age should not mask on Mon
day night, thereby crowding out
many older people who would
like to dance. If the children will
be real good on this occasion,
the Argus will give them a good
time after school closes.

The heavy sand storm of yes
terday morning wound up with
a little snow andrain just what
the country needs.
Mrs. F. P. Sccrist and son,
Charles, arc visiting at Winslow
this week, while Mr. Sccrist is
assessing the town.
Frank Wallace, manager of
the Aztec Company, and crew,
were in town this week deliver
ing several carloads of horses at
the stock yards.
F. W. Hill, deputy U. S. mar
shal, was summoning jurors in
this and Apache county this
week, to serve at the March term
of court to be held at Prescott
on the 26th.
Three Knocking.
The measure providing state
hood for New Mexico, Arizona
and Oklahoma, will be reported
to the house on Friday in the
for of an omnibus bill, .says a
special dispatch from Washing
ton to the Denver News. Altho
the New Mexico people claim
they stand a better show for ad
mission to statehood than either
Oklahoma or Arizona, they arc
willing that all three of the bills
shall go in together for the sake
of a more favorable considera
tion on the part of the democrats.
It is claimed that the political
complexion of both New Mexico
and Oklahoma are dccididly re
publican, while Arizona has a
leaning towards the democracy.
Should New Mexico or Oklaho
ma therefore be put forward as
the likely candidates the demo
cratic votes in the house might
be lacking. The republicans on
the other hand might not con
sent to Arizona's being pushed
forward. Comprised in an omni
bus bill three territories will
have an apparently equal show,
and there is little doubt of the
bill being passed in the house. A
hanging up is predicted in the
senate, although Delegate Rodey
exhibits figures in connection
with that side of congress that
are most convincing. Senators
Penrose and Quay of Pennsylva
nia are said to be working for
the bill. Senator Elkins, former
ly of New Mexico, will of course
support it, and with the advoca
cy of all the western men, both
democrats and republicans, the
statehood bills, according to
Mi'. Rodey, will see daylight
eyen in the senate.
