The bubonic plague, it seems, has a small foothold in China town, San Francisco, but every thing possible is being clone to keep it from spreading. Dr. Francis Woods, who spent sometime in this part of the ter ritory, is now in Phoenix, work ing the legislators in the interests of woman's suffrage. Nearly every clerk is a woman and it seems the Dr. ought to make a good impression. The world's record for double handed drilling is now 43V4 inches. . It was made at El Paso January 13, by Chamberlain and Make. Fred Yockey, of Cripple Creek, Colo., broke the world's record for single handed drilling, the numlier of inches drilled being 23V4. According to these figures the average annual production of California since 1850 is 39,609 flasks. The production in 1900 was 26,317 flasks, or 10,292 flasks below the average. This decrease of production applies not only to the mines of Califor nia, but of the world, while the demand is constantly increasing. Sunset Magazine. Proposals For Building of Bridge. Office of Board of Supervisors, Holbrook, Ariz., Dec. 31, 1902 Pursuant to a resolution of the board proposals will be received at the office of same for the build ing of a bridge near Woodruff. Bids and specifications will be considered at regular meeting , of the board, April 6th, 1903. By order of the board, A. F. McAllister, Clerk. Ranchmen will be gratified to learn of the passage by the low er house of Congress of the bill providing lor an extension from twenty four to forty hours of the time which cattle in transit may be kept in cars without unload ing to feed and water. It is ex pected that this bill will be pass ed by the senate and signed by , President Roosevelt during this session. California Quicksilver. The present annual output of California mines is about one fourth of the world's entire yield. Quicksilver was produced in this ! state, in a primitive way, as far . back as 1845, and the official re port of the director of the United . States Gelogical Survey, covering a period of fifty years., from 1850 to 1900, shows the total produc tion of the California mines to be 1,830,447 flasks of76y2 pounds each. The average price during this period was $47.25 per flask, showing the value of the total output of this state to be over $86,000,000. A half dozen or more prominent mines, of which the New Almaden stands at the head with a 3 ield of nearly f 50, 000,000 worth of mercury, have contributed mainly to this out put.
