LOCAL and PERSONAL Louie Garvin is spending a few days here visiting with his folks J. F Woods was a Winslow visitor Monday. - .Col. M. R. Tate is up from the Headquarter ranch today. , Ed Solomon of Taylor is here to dispose of his clip of wool. Julia Scorse is spending a few days visiting with her folks. L. Harkness, traveling repre sentative of the Erie R. R. Co. was sojourning here yesterday. John R. Hulet was a business vis itor at Snowflake the tore part of the week. L. C. Henning, editor of the Winslow Mail, spent a few hours in the County capital Monday. J. E. Richards the St. Joe mer chant was here after supplies today. Mrs. E. Hathaway is spending the week here the guest of Mrs. E. II. Bargeman. Mrs. Win. Morgan was an ar rival on No. 2 Thursday night from Phoenix. A. E. Maupin is in from his trading post with a load of nice Navajo blankets. On account of numerous wrecks the trains have been running quite late this week. Dick Gibbons was down from his ranch, at Malpai Springs, af ter a load of supplies Thursday. Rev. II. P. Case of Los Angeles lectured at the school house last evening. A. A. Vandewort was here Sun day and purchnsed several clips of wool, Judge Wattron has been quite busy shipping the snme. Jack Scales, travehngsalcsman for the Armour Parking Com pany, was interviewing our mer chants Wednesday. E. S. Westover left here Thursi day for Kansas City, he will be absent two years on a mission in the Southern States. Miss Kate Rudd arrived here Sunday on her way to Springer ville from Safford, where she has taught school the past winter. Pedro Montano arrived here this morning from Las Animas, to attend to shearing and dip ping of his flocks. The pay escort undercommand of Lieut. Ilunsacker arrived here last evening and is awaiting the arrival of the strong box. Lewis E. Decker was here Thursday and made application for a Desert Land claim on the Day wash, about 12 miles north of Phoenix Parley E.J. Smith drove a party of Akimo Indians out to ShowLow j'esterday. They will work for J. E. Porter through lambing season. The A. C. M. I. have just re ceived a ear load of Bain wagons. Attorney George II. Crosby passed through her yesterday on his return to St. Johns from Flag staff where he has attended the Spring session of the district court. Misses Dora and Louis Despain came up from St. Joseph Wednes daj, Miss Louis boarded No. 2 Thursday for San Marcial.N. M. to visit with her sister Mrs. A. Mossman, Miss Dora returned home that evening. Wm. Woosterof Whitcriverhas been awarded the contract for transporting the Government supplies between here and Ft. Apache for the ensuing year, commencing July 1st. Contract price ninety cents per hundred. President Roosevelt is certain ly having a strenuous time in the West. Down in Texas he para lyzed the bunnies; in Indian Ter ritory he captures a wolf alive; now he has taken to the moun tains of Colorado to hunt bear. Rev. Wm. Wiley, the Episcopal minister of Winslow, was here Monday to visit Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Woods. Mr. Wiley former ly lived at Mrs. Woo.d 'sold home in Sturges, S. D., he officiated at Mr. and Mrs. Woods wedding. Al Stevenson, the genial pro prietor of the Forest. Hotel at Adamana, was in our midst last Thursday, while here he invested in a large assortment of garden seeds, he says he will run a small farm in connection with that hostelry this year. W. Smith, the wounded robber was given his preliminary hear ing before Judge Flinn yesterday, he plead guilty and was bound oyer to await the action of the grand jury under $2,000 bond. Sheriff Ilouck brought him up today and placed him in the count' jail. Roosevelt's Rough Riders have unanimously votedrecomniendng that its executive committee se lect Prescott for their next reun ion. President Roosevelt has promised, circumstances permit ting, to be present. Mrs. Ingersoll, widow of Robt. G. Ingersoll has just been award ed judgement for $95,000 with interest, against the trustees of the estate of the late Andrew J. Davis, a wealthy mine owner of Butte, Mont. Ihe suit was; in stituted by Mrs. Ingersoll to re cover fees for services which she claimed were given by her hus band to the estate. B. A. Fowler, late republican candidate for delegate to con gress from Arizona has returned to Pbcenix from a visit in Wash ington only to bring the n?ws that the joint statehood bill will be passed by congress early in the next session.
