Milner mounts his column and a half of opaque sentences and ar gues from questions of his own raising, then enters up judgement and nobody knows anything of his case. A writer in the Herald of last week comments on the good or bad taste of an "affidavit maker" or "informer" and handled him just in accordance with the spirit of the information given. The Herald is not trying the case of Mr. Hub- bell, or the right to the office of sheriff, this is the business of the courts and the probability is that the court will take care of the mat ters involved therein. "What is the matter with Orator Milner, has the study of the kind of liberty and independence, he shall proclaim for the polygamous church from the forum on the Fourth, mixed him to the point and consistency of mush. Dont weaken Bro. Milner this is your opportunity. Orator ! Yc Gods 1 ! Tell of the church that claims Tour allegiance, first, last and all the time ; tell us of endow ment houses and blood atonements j tell us of all the liberties of which the church hath made you free. Ring out the praises of the church, high above the state and swell the chorus of Hosanna to the Presi dent and the Apostles. Teach the people as j'ou orate something they should know of the God whom you serve. We take from the Arizona Miner the following notice of the death of Capt. Antoine Pelletier, one of the most prominent citizens of the city of Washington. "Recent advices from Washing ton, D. C, state that the claim of the late Captain Antoine Pelletier, against the Haytien government, for false imprisonment, for $246,000 has been finally adjudicated, by the representatives of Hayti agreeing to allow $57,000, in full settlement of the claim. Captain Pelletier's death, in New York, we recently chronicled, and the justice which has at last been accorded him comes too late to repay him for the long years of arduous and discouraging efforts to secure redress for his wrongs. The Captain was formerly a resident of Prescott, and has a lister and -a niece residing in this citv -the latter being the wife of Hon. Jno. G. Campbell." Wo hud been personally ac quainted with Captain Pelletier for many years and were surprised and grieved to hear of his death. The Caoin waa an i..Iefatiable worker in whatever he undertook. A man of great executive ability and of rare Invent! vd genius. In his younger days he followed tae fiea as coast and foreign tf adcr aiii became possessed of vast weaifch from his enterprise. His last in-yen-tions w an iho manufacture of stone for building jpurpose6; and an indistructable pavement for ilic streets of large cities. Farewell old friend, though you may not have been recompensed for losses istnined .fee, we believe your charaties during your long andreventfujl .career will 5 imply compensated by Him w& under stands the hearts of nil nien. . TERRITORIAL RAILWAYS- There is now no doubt of the early completion of the railway from Chino to Prescott. Men are on the ground with their instru ments, laborers are plenty, and the route the best on the continent; there is in fact, no heavy work on the whole line. The contractors have ample means, and the sooner the work is completed the greater will be the profit to the builders the greater to the stock-holders the better it will be for the country along the line. The greater the travel along the Atlantic & Pacific railway, the larger shipments of ore of silver and gold bullion willj bring to the country a correspond ing value in coin and currency. Every enterprise in mining, agri culture, commerce, and in mer chandise and stock will be pro moted as these feeders of the main line shall be multiplied. This por tion of Arizona was but a few years ago an unexplored desert, to day with but' one line streching from east to west, and that not through the best portion, its im portance, its great worth is her alded over the universe. Every traveler over the line is worth a thousand printed circulars setting forth its present advantages. With the introduction of only one line the territory has made these startling advances in civilization. What may we not expect when a perfect system of feeders shall reach the cultivateble lands and parks of the best feed in the world for cattle ranges, to the north and south of the through route. The number of settlers within the next four years will increase ten fold, and no man will be sharp enough to find what to-day is called a fron tier people, and will soon find that they can buy railroad lands at less price than the cost of locating and paying for government sections, and the bug-a-boo of land grab bery and land sharks will no long er frighten the man from the terri tory who will give the subject the least consideration. Under the law, we desire to see every man, every head of a family gather his fold about him and make himself a home while yet there is room. Frank M. Pixlev, of the Argo naut has for the last ten days been pretty savagely criticised by the" press of Arizona and New Mexico. The provocation is the tone of the leading article published in Pix ley's paper under date of June 13, last. In his opening statement the editor cites one fact which re dounds to the credit of the Pacific Coast press, viz: "The Argonaut will be the only journal upon this coast, probably, that will have the courage to say that it is a cowardly and inexcusable plot of thieves and rascally contractors to make money by the unjustifiable massa cre of an innocent people."- Again he continues : "We do not hesitate to say that our sympathies are with the Apaches We wish they could drive the cowardly drunkeipang of cowboys and vol unteer blackguards who are on the war-path, into an ambuscade and murder them." Now, such language from any one not bereft of reason, not a mono-maniac, not absolutely crazy, in this country and among this people, deserves the severest condemnation that can be heaped upon it and - the utterer of fhe horrible sentiment deserves the" same punishment as should be nieted out to the murderers whose blood-tiuirsty cravings he applauds. "An-Indiail w3 does not exist in Arizona;" say not, but that mur ders of innocent settlers are con stantly committed by Apache In dians Itt our columns of to-day furnish the evidence though the ghastly record may causehe heart of Pixtey to rejoice with unalloyed joy; it is aot so with the widow and orphan of him wno was ton ing solely for their support in the ftultivation of the soil; searching n TYi nn or tho. rocks for evidences oi .the precious metals, .or watching flocks and herds by day anu nigm , cammmr on the plains in all weather: beneath the burning rays -'iramcr sun, or mo blasts of cruel winter Of for the slight recompence of $300 to $600 per year. Thtse are the so styled blackguards that Pixle3r refers to as bringing gladness to his heart when he hears that their lives have been sacrificed to satiate the desires of the wild Apache for a sight of the crimson current that maintains the unity of their souls and bodies. Can it be possible that it would require more than this to complete the happiness of Pixley ? yes, one more trifle hear him: "We wish they (the Apaches) had the arms and the opportunity to give our personal- friend, General Crook and his army, a good sound thrashing." It seems that it would be the delirium of ecstacy to have the blood of his. personal friend flow. Why not contribute a wife, child, sister or brother, and turn Hottentot, the closer the relations the greater the joy, seems to be the sentiment of F. M. Pixie-, editor. For thirty-five years to our knowledge, Mr. Pixley has been a chronic scold and crank, and so estimated by Californians ; "but in this last, effusion, he seems to have out done himself. He is now too old to court popularity and it is charitable to suppose that he has finally become bereft of reason. Special advices state that much excitement prevails at St. Johns, the county seat of Apache county, over the arrest of Sol. Barth, a wealthy stockman and merchant, and ex-member of the legislature. He is charged with perjury and other criminal offenses and has given bail for his appearance at the district court in the sum of $4,000. Sheriff Mulvenon, of Yavapai, ef fected "the arrest, the sheriff of Apache declining to do so. Pres cott Miner. Bro. Beach somebody has been deceiving you. The sheriff of Apache county had no warrant for the arrest of Mr. Barth ; did not know h& was to be arrested ; was not asked by Sheriff Mulvenon, or any other sheriff or person, to ar rest him ; was not in town when the arrest was made. The deputy sher iff met Mr. Mulvenon and talked with him, the conversation had ho reference to the arrest spoken of, nor to the arrest of any one else. Furthermore there is no excitement in this town on the subject, or on any other, and to our personal knowledge there has been none. No Gin in Albuquerque on elec tion da'.
