A Missouri boT was compelled by his teacher to write an essay on the mouth for some infraction of dicipline and this is what he wrote: "Your mouth is the front door to the face. It is the cold storage of your anatomy. Some mouths look like peaches and cream; some look like a hole in a brick wall to adroit a new window or door. The mouth is a hot bed for toothache, and the bung hole of oratory. The mouth is the crimson aisle to our liver, it is patriotism's fountain and the toolchst for pie. Without a mouth the politician would be a wanderer on the face of the earth and go down to an unhonored grave. It is the grocer's friend the orator's pride and the dentist's hope. It puts some men on the ros trum and some in jail. It is temp tation's Ir.nch counter when at altachedtoa maiden and a tobac co fiend's when attached to a man. . . A man cannot do two things at a time. A woman will broil a steak and see that the coffee does! not boil oyer, and watch the cat does not steal the remnant of the meat on the kitchen table, and dress the youngest boy, and set; the table, and see to the toast, ; and stir the oatmeal, and give the ! order to the butcher, and she can do it all at once and not half try. j Man has done wonders since he ' came before the public. He has! navigated the ocean, he has pene trated the mysteries of the starry heavens, he has harnessed the lightning, and made it light the great cities of the world. But he can't lind a reel of thread in his wife's work-basket; he can't dis- i cover a pocket in a dress hanging in the closet; he cannot hang clothes and get them on the line right end up. He cannot hold clothes pins in his mouth while he does it either. He cannot be polite to somebod he hates. He cannot sew on a button. In short, he cannot do a hundred . things that a woman can .do al- most instinctive!-. Cheerful Moments. Wiry is it that we so easily for get that the little things in life are what make it easy or hard? A few pleasant words, a warm t .tt ...... nana-ciasp, a cordial letter, are are very simple things, but the- are mighty in their in fluence on the lives of those about us, adding a ray of hope to many disconsolate heart, giving courage to the disappointed weary ones, and helping at the same time to make our own lives sweeter. Few peopje realize how much the little attentions of every day life mean to their associates in the home, the place of business, the church.
