The Index moved into the Farley block, on Warner street, several months ago; since then the Star has moved into the old Index office; and the Citizen is now moving into the , old Star office. The El Fronterizo, is about to move down town into the old Citizen office. All this ought to shake up the brains of the newspaper fra ternity. Index. It was a pretty little incident, that which recently occurred on a Chestnut-street car, in Philadelphia, and those who witnessed it readily saw the moral it contained. A ragged newsboy passed through the car to sell a newspaper,' and as he did fo one of his barefcet touched the pantaloons of a fastidiously dressed gentleman, leaving a speck of dirt upon them. "Excuse me, sir," said the lad apol ogetically, stopping in his haste and lifting his tattered straw hat. "Cer tainly," replied the gentleman, cour teously bowing in return. 'Twas a lesson in politeness well worth remembering. 'i'tie I'riritJnf; lros. An exchange gives the following tragic 'account: The printing props has' made Presidents, killed pools, 'furnished bustles 'for beauties and polished genius with criticism. If has m'ade' worlds get up at roll ciill every morning, given the pulpit lungs of iron and a voice of steam. It has set a- price on a bushel ' of wheat and made the country postoflice the glim mering goal of the rural scribe. It has curtailed the power of kings and graced pantry shelves; it has con verted hankers into paupers and made lawyers of college presidents; it has educated 'the homeless and robbed the philosopher of Jiis reason. It smiles, kicksand dries; but it can't be run to suit everybody, and the editor's a fool who tries. Kid Itcd-Quilts. One of the very latest ideas for ladies whose time .'hangs heavy on their hands is to ' make a patchwork bedcover of the '.backs of discarded kid gloves. 'To match and "combine the colors, both of the kid and the ornamental stitching, and to fit in the shapes, afford an occupation far more fascinating and prolonged than "crazy patchwork." When finished, the quilt must be lined with a delicate soft silk or satin. It will ' really then look a little nearer to being worth the trouble of making it than might be imagined. London News. They are practical sugar makers and will try the experiment of sugar making here. They have care fully studied the conditions of soil and climate, and are confident in the be lief that sugar cane will thrive better here than it does in Louisiana. They will find a home market for all the sugar they' make at good figures, and will do well. Enterprise. Monday evening, just before retir ing for the night, Mr. Charles Rapp sat down in close proximity to a pugnacious scorpion, and the indign ant little creature resented the fam iliarity by shooting its double-duplex, soul paralyzing sting into a delicate portion of Charlie's anatomy. Charlie performed a series of athletic evolu tions and lit with his mouth on the neck of a bottle. But the Arizona antidote for "snake bite" was not strong enough to entirely counteract the scorpion poison, and Charlie suf fered the torments of the damned till next day. He was confined to his bed seveial days, but is all right now. Enterprise. One of General Miles' Lieutenants went down to the Pima reservation Saturday to enlist a company of Pa pago scouts to operate against the hostiles." We. learn from a Papago that his tribe will send out a company provided General Miles will let them be independent of the army and make the campaign in accordance with their own system of warfare and under their own leaders, lie says his people can travel as fast and as far on foot as can the hostiles, and can equal them in ascending and descending the rugged mountains. He also stated that the Papagos were superior to the Chiricahuas in courage and skill and could whip them man to man on any field. They have been fighting one another for a century or more, and therefore are hereditary enemies. We believe what this Papago says is true, and that a company of the tribe, armed, equipped and rationed by General Miles, and permitted by him to act upon their own judgment, would soon terminate the Indian war. -Florence Enterprise.
