Twenty-two'of our own post of tin's city are there, greeting their old war comrades, while old glory proudly floating on the breeze over their heads. Auotlici- Violent Oo.-ttii Telegraphic intelligence from Fort Thomas, states that Jerome B. Collins was shot and killed by Bill Williams a cattleman of Arivaipa Canyon, on last Sunday. The cause which led to the trouble which resulted so unpleas antly is not definitely stated; one telegram says the misunderstanding arose about a cattle transaction, and another' says it was a dispute about grain and still another says that it arose over the settlement of an ac count. J. B. Collins was the most promin ent merchant and government con tractor in that section of Arizona. His violent death was not unexpected, as he was unfortunately possessed of a quick temper which mastered him, especially so, if under the influence of liquor. He was both brave and recklrss, always armed, and feared no one. He had killed his man, in se f defense, some years ago at Fort Thomas, but the tragedy preyed upon his mind. He had accumulated con siderable wealth in cattle, lands and merchandise ; he was in this city al most two- weeks ago and estimated his assets at about $75,000 ; his estate will no doubt clean up $0,030. Ho leaves a wife and three or four chil dren, two of whom are girls who have been attending the Convent school in Tucson for some time. Mr. Collins was formerly from Texas, and was among the first to settle at Thomas. He gave the name of Maxly to the settlement in honor of Senator Maxly of Texas. He has done more to develop that section of the country than any other man, and was an untiring worker. He had a big heart filled with good impulses, and had a large circle of friends; but alas! strong drink was more power ful than he.
