Last week the Society for tbe Prevention
of Cruelty to Children investigated a case at
3 Kineon place, where Mrs. Mary Mullen
had been desert d by her husband and left
entirety destitute with three young children
by her side. The woman was sick and had
to be removed to the City and County Hos
pital, while her little otos were given some
thing to eat and placed in institutions. Mon
day afternoon she died in the hospital. It
is said that her uncontrollable appetite for
beer was the cause of her domestic troubles,
her wretched condition and finally her
