On Thursday evening thero. will be a meeting held in tho rooms of tho Demo cratic State Centrnl Committee in the Grand Ilulel, at which delegates from the. various State Central and local County Committee?, aro expected to be present. The purposo of the meeting is to arrange mutually for a rercnstiuclion of the present election laws. The Australian ballot system as now in vogue, while satisfactory in Its general provisions, needs, in the opinion of many, modification, and a preliminary meet ing held on Saturday night decided to issue a call lor delegates from all tiie main bodies of the political parties, so that ideas may ho exchange-el and a reform movement be In augurated. The Hepubllcanje, the Democrats, the Non-Partisans, the. People's party and the Prohibitionists will each be represented by three delegates. Messrs. K. A. Frledrfch of the Union League, li. M. Simpson of ihe* Non-Parti sans and Max Popper of the Democratic patty ate the committee which has issued the call for Thursday's meeting. The main objections to the present law are that it skat too loni* a time after tin* elec tion beforo the result is known, and much fault is found with the manner in which the -.lection Commission is created. in regard to tin* latter grievance it Is pro posed that the law shall be so amended as to provide for it permanent and special Hoard of Election Commissioners composed of salaried men from all patties.
