The first issue of “ZION BENTON NEWS” — which re presents a merger of the two local weekly papers, The Theo crat and The Community News, — will appear in the Zion Benton area on Thursday, Sep tember 15th, 1949. The yearly subscription rate for the new paper will remain the same, namely $1.50 annu ally, as that of its predecessors. Current subscriptions to The Theocrat and the Community News will be transferred to the Zion-Benton News and will continue to run until their ex piration or renewal. The Theocrat has been ap pearing weekly on Wednes days in Zion for the last 36 years, sponsored by the Chris tian Catholic Church. In addi tion to the Church announce ments, there has been present ed the Bible School Lessons prepared by Overseer Anton Darms, usually a sermon or in stallment thereof, missionary (Continued on page 4) 1 COMMUNITY NEWS This is the final issue of COMMUNITY NEWS, which next week will be merged with THE THEOCRAT. The new paper will be known as the ZION-BENTON NEWS and will be published by A. L. Bick et, who also will be managing editor. The history of the COM MUNITY NEWS may be traced back to the dark depression days of 1930 when it came into being as a tiny 12-page tabloid weekly on Friday, April 25 of that year. It was first known as the Benton Advertiser, pri marily an advertising medium, and operated under that name until 1931, when it was enlarg ed and adopted its present name. During the course of its 19 year history, the COMMUNI TY NEWS has endeavored to give an unbiased report of cur rent events in the Zion-Benton area with regular circulation being extended to all the out lying districts of the communi ty, including Zion, Beach, Win throp Harbor, Wadsworth, Rus sell and North Prairie. He spent six weeks over there visiting with church mem bers. ZION CHAMBER TO MEET On the second Tuesday of the month, September 13th, the Zion Chamber of Commerce will hold its first fall dinner meeting in Zion Hotel — Gold Room at 6:30 p. m.
