John Smith , of Ash Creek , informs - forms us that a basket supper was held at the Ash Creek school house last Friday night to raise funds for a Christmas tree. The scheme proved a success and something ver thirteen dollars were raised. Each of the bas- lcts ; : brought mor.e than a dollar. The ladies of the M. E. church I will serve chicken pic dinner and supper at the Temple Theatre on Saturday , Dec. 15. This is the first time in several years the l\L E. ladies have arranged to prepare a feast' for our citizens and it will certainly be a good , ne , well calculated to whet the appetite for the Christmas dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Norron and son , visited with bis parents , I Mr. and Mrs. Frank Norton several days last week. Mr. Norton is manager for the J. 1. Case Threshine Machine company - pany at Racine , Wis. Their visit unuer the parental room at Thanksgiving time was Very enjoyable for all. The Farmers Elevator Co. , of Omaha has sent out thousands of circulars advising farnJers to hold back corn shipments until colder weather or tm the corn has dried out more. Only a small percent of the new crop is fit for storing. The season in' most of the state has retarded curing , and the grade of the corn will be better if allowed to cure on the cob , J of H. Mrs. Klump is one , of the early set- tIers of the west table and has had her share of trials and joys incident to pioneer life and has I left the world better by her hav- ing. lived in it. She leaves a husband and several grown up children to mourn her death. We hope to be able to give the obituary of this good womaq next week. J. A. Owens , who recently purchased - chased the Hotel at Dunningof W. H. Jones. has rearranged the interior of the building and very much improved in convenience and comfort. Mrs. Owens ap. pears very much at home in' her new business. When her old Custer county friends are in Dunning - ning they will receive a cordial welcome when they call. They are doing a thriving business and Al is kept busy looking after the odds and cnds about the place , The chairs at the 'l cU1ple theatre havc been placed farther apart and patrons of the house will find them morc comfortable.
