Election-Tuesday, Nov. 8, 1904. For President, ALTON B. PARKER, of New York. Por Vice-President, HENRY Q. DAVIS, of West Virginia. Congress 1st District, wn. a. jones, of Richmond Comity. The letter of acceptance of Presi? dent Roosevelt has been given to the public and though it coutaius 10,000 words means, brietly summed up. that he iuteuds to administer the af f"irs of the Government, If he is re elected, in the future as he bas iu the past, with the same disregard oi con? stitutional limitations ou his power aud with the same contempt for tbe proprieties in everything in his per? sonal or official relations iu conflict with his views Io a word, he, in his r pinion, bas done nowrong in the rast aad can do none in 4he future; experience haviBg taught him no les sous whicb gives any hope of reform through him. He fctauds by every* tbiug he has ever done and "stand* lor" everything he bas ever taid, aud four more years of tbe "tame way* may be expected, if be is re elected He has Doapoligies to make for au j errors which he has made. IU "points with pride" to every act of hit administration and declares that it ii perfect. He is entirely satisfied will the record he has made for himsel and his party, but in the lauguag. of the Times Dispatch: "Are tht people sathtiedv Are the people wil ling to let Republican tariff, Repub Ji? an eilra\agauce, aud Republicai imperialism go on ioreverv Are tin people willing to commit the affair ol this nation for auotber term to thi boastful pharisee who can find m lauit wi atsoever with himself.aodwhi tays that it would be stnpid in th voters and au act of madness and i public disaster for them to turn hie cut and put Judge Parker in." The people *ill say on elect!.in da and we have an abiding faith tba when they bave spoken that this de ftaut dictator will have received th rebuke which he so justly deserves. Governor A. J. Montague has an i cunced hit candidacy for the Unite States Senate and the contest fo that honor.it is predicted, will be b< tween him and the Hoc. Thoe. t Martin, the present incumbent, witt cut interference ou the part of au other aspirant for the positiom The announcement will cause n surprise in political circles and wi be received wita pleasure by tba class of voters io the State who be 1 eve that the e ffice ought to be lille ly a niau of distinguished abilit; w^o can command the attention < the Senate and properly reprteei ns before tbat body when questiot b rise of interest to all the people < the Old Commonwealth. The contest, when it really open promises to be an exciting one fro fcUrt to fluish bot wiil not begiu ut til after the fad election, as indicate by the following reply of the Gove nor when asked to outline the han which may be expected to play phrt inthe contest; 'I think nothii shcu'd now be said to distract atte t'en from the presidential cainpai^ which should engage the united t forts of the party; indeed, I suou not have said this much save to a Bwer a great many inquiries ae whether or not I would be a cant dpte, but at the proper time n views will be placed before all t Democratic people ot Virginia in thorough a manner as I know how dolt." The elections in Maine on Mond resulted, as was expected, in the si ccps of the Republican ticket I; with a reduced rlurality of seve thousands, which indicates that soi of the Republicans in that Stite i thinking for themselves, and will so in tlie c ther States where the v is cl -se and coutts for something.
