A gasoline tack exploJtd in a
colored shoe shop in Ocula Wednes
day afternoon, oreating much ex
citement and causing a loss of about
400. Fortunately no lives were
lost, for several persons were in the
shop when the explosion occurred.

for tbe consummation of this much-to-be
desired improvement but with
indifferent success up to now. Now
he ci mes forward with another plan
which in brief is the sub-district idei,
nd be is having circulated among
the voters a petition which, when
igned by a sufficient number, will
be presented to the county commis
sioners. The petition Itself explains
the plan sufficiently well and for the
nformution and benefit of our read
ers we give it In full as follows :
To the Honorable Board of County
Commissioners of Midison county,
Florida:
"We, the undersigned citizens, re
sidents and Qualified electors, who
pay a tax on personal or real proper
ty ia the proposed Special Road Dis
trict hereto attached, "respectfully pe
tition your houorable body to call an
elnction as provided by law, to deter
mine whether eaid .propesed Special
Road District su?)! be established
and become a Special Tax Road Dis
trict for the purpose ot levying and
collecting a district road tax for tbe
-exclusive use of the public roads
within such road district as here
with Indicated by tbe attached map
Thai said Special Koad District shall
he established for a pe-iod of two
years and tbat the number of mill
of the Special District tax levied
and collected annually for the two
succeeding years shall be five(f )mill
for each year."
Attached to tbis petition is a map
showing the proposed Road District
to be along tbe following .ines:
Running east from Madison a dis
tance of fiye miles passing Juft east
of Macedonia church to a point
about four "miles north ot said
church, tbeu west to e line which
rims throush Hanson and north of
Hanson to a point about two miles
crtb, then wesi leaving Cherry
Lake still to the north and Hamburg
post olliue also 8 little north to a
lino from east to west about seven
miles south of Madison, cornering
about two miles north of Moseley
Hull.
I'bo doctor is very hopeful that
enough voters and property holders
will sigu the petition in time for its
presentation to tbe board of county
commissioners at the next regular
neeting, in which event an election
will be called if tie board so de
cides.

Council met in regular session.
Present W. B. Davis, L. A. Fra
leiuhE. C. Hassll, Waller Bun
ting and D. II. Yates.
The minutes of lust meeting were
read and approved. '
Mr. Ola Sanders appeared before
the Couucll iu behalf of tbe Fraleigh
Lines Shelter Co. Asking the Coun
cil to reimburse them for piping
used in Lake Francis drive.
Upun motion same was referred to
street committee for adjustment.
Mr. Reeve appeared before the
Council in bcnalf of tbe Madison
Electrio Power Co. offering 31 ad
ditional incandescent lights to the
town making a total of 51 incan
descent lights at $2.K apiece, per
month. Upon motion same was ac
cepted.

business at Greenville Tuesday after
noon. The standplpe was drained add given

Mrs. D G. Smith and little D. G. are
in Colombia, S. C, visiting, relatives.
They will probably return home this
week.
Hon. T. L. Clarke, of Montioello, one

State, was a businees visitor to our town-
last Saturday.

will make his anoual inspection of

New Smyrna is the prospective can
