The first automobile accident to hap pen In our town occurred Monday night, just after supper, in front of the poelornce. Tbe boy evidently did not seethe approaching car, being intent upon bia play, and Mr. Sanders couldn't possibly bave stopped the car before It struck him a heavy blow, shattering tbe tbick plate glass of one of the search lights and bending the fender out of sbape. Two of the wheels of tbe car passed directly over tbe middle of the boy and as the car with it occupants weighed more thn tbree thousand pounds it may well be imagined tbat tbe boy waa . considerably bruised and hurt. Mr. Sanders stopped the car at ones and direeted tbat physician be eatlled and lb boy taken proper ear of. .. But once m nvr nne uns literal adherence to duty produces some awk ward results. An American woman living In Inrlln, with native servants, once told ber butler to see tbat there was always a napkin at the bottom of the fruit dish, cuke basket, etc., when these were brought to the table. Tho napkin was thereafter always seen in Its place, But one day a tureen of vegetable soup wns served, and tbe hostess began to wield tbe long, old fashioned silver ludle about in It. Something very like a fringed rag made Its appearance In tho first plate ful. The butler was summoned to re move the dlsb. "It cannot be that tbe mem sahib found no napkin at tbe bottom," be hazarded, much distressed because of this unexplained disap proval, "for I myself placed there tbe largest one I could find." Queer Goldfish. Beautiful and most interesting of all goldfish la native of Japan, and it la noted for Uie beauty of 1U tall and tbe abnormal length ot Its flus. The tail resemble a delicate Tell, and the fins re developed to such an extent tbat it ll impossible for the fish to make rapid progress in the water. It to therefore solely on account of Its beauty tbat it is prized anj because Id this respect it differs widely from other varieties of goldfish, such as tbe "telescope fish," the eyes of which bulge out of tbe head in most unsightly fashion; tbe "celestial eyed fish," which Is also un comely' because Us eyes are bullet shaped and are ever turned skyward, and the "egg fish," which is so called because its body is somewhat amor phous, but resembles an egg more than anything else.
