II- Tab Brant of Tallahassee Was Passenger, Hits Hn and Is Blown to Pieces Tallahassee, May 28. -'-That Bel gium is at present the most prosper ous nation in Europe is the opinion of R. H. Van Brnnt, who has juat returned from a stay of several months in Belgium, Holland, England and France, and is the guest ot his father, 0. C. Van Brunt. Mr. Van Brunt says hat France h fast recovering from the effects of the world war, and although he did not get into Germany it is his under standing that country is doing well. Al the countries are now ' in need f raw material and relief supplies. In his opinion Austria 1b the worst wreck left by the ravages of the world evniMct, and the people of that coun try are in. greater need than any oth er. He has witnessed with his owe eyes some of 4he children which nave teen sent from Austria to Holland to be fed and cared' for and many of them ere little more than skin , and bone. Mr. Van Brunt is special represen tative of the United States Shipping Board, and on his last voyage to Eu ropean countries had some very try ing experiences He sailed from New York on November 12, 1910, aboard ht ship Liberty Glow which carried a cargo of relief supplies for Germans Thirty days out from New York and only eleven nours from the port in Germany his ship struck a. submerged mine which cut it frpm underside to jnrterside. The ship lay for fourteen tours before it finally broke to pieces in the strong gale and high seas. At 4 a. m. the crew left the ship in life boats, and although In sight of a light iou6e and only lire miles from the shore, the boat ot which he was an occupant , was eleven hours making its way to the shore of Holland. A aeeond boat-landed in Holland after ihfrteen hours and the third reached an isle of Germany in fifteen hours with four of the ten occupants dead from exposure. When the ship broke the fore part sunk but the after part floated and in heavy seas was washed ashore on the isle of Ar eland, Holland. For Bve mrnths U lay, exposed to the heavy breakers and frequent galas of the Nirth Sda, but on account of its strong consl ruction and the good work of the salvage cmopany it was finally towed to Rolterdam, where it is hoped to have it repaired and put to sea again.
