There must have been some right nice profits in Fords and Frank lins before the prices were cut. The State press is trying to edu cate the people to writing out the name of the State in full. But some people are so busy they could never take the time. They'll dash off "Fla." or "X-mas" in a frenzy of haste and then spent the next hour standing on the corner or leaning against a post watching the Fords go by. From an item, objecting to such a thing, in the Miami Metropolis, we lafer that some people are trying to corner the ocean over there, and pre vent bathing in It except by those who pay toll to the casinos or bath houses. Lakeland's altitude is 227 feet, and the Club House In the Highlands about six miles south of this city, is 90 feet higher. The general altitude of the State is 100 feet. Under con ditions heretofore existing, it has been a lengthy and onerous task to canvass Along the street came a girl in her teens, carrying a heavy child. It was jhard work, and she set him down, i saying, "I can't carry you another step; you are much too heavy." The child howled. In the girl's' . tone there was a lit tle exasperation and something that seemed like blame the child was "too heavy." Then, too, she was di rectly announcing that she would no longer do what he had evidently de manded. Suppose that she had said in a cheerful tone, "Now the nice big boy is going to walk a while and give sis ter a rest!" He might still have howled ; but she would not have been inviting him to do so. You can't make other peopl cheer ful by expressing your own discour agement. To control their feelinira you must learn to look beyond your own. No attention! whatever jwtll be. paid to local needs. Hie . whole plan contemplates Joy riding on a state-wide scale and it does not con I template anything else. We have seen statements that the ; roads to be built by the state might icost forty thousand dollars a mile. If so the f 30,000,000 that is being J talked of would build only 750 miles, or at five millions a year would build only 125 miles a year. There Is also talk, of a construction of a nnn mii to carry out the plans of the advo cates of bonds. This would mean bonding the state not for $30,000,000 but for $120,000,000 and this could be done in a few years by raising the assessment to Its 4rue value though whether the state could ever pay It or not Is another question. The advocates of bonds do nnt make their plans clear. They merely wish the people of Florida to shut their eyes and trust them. If we know the people of Florida they will not do anything of the kind. -Jacksonville Times-Union. i DONT FORGET That the Lakeland Steam Laundry is now ready to take care of your Laundry Work just a little better than ever before.
