The Palatka Board of Bond Trus tees held an important meeting on Monday with all the members pres ent. The matter of bonds voted for water works was informally dis cussed and it was decided to sell, all that remained of this issue at once. A resolution was introduced and unanimously passed to the effect "that the balance of the water works bonds be sold at once and that the board proceed immediately to con struct a city water system." The News learns that a large amount of the water bonds have al ready been sold. The city sewer system is now near ly completed, leaving the streets in a badly torn up condition. There is a strong sentiment in favor of paving certain streets as soon as practicable, and the bond trustees feel that the water service should be laid while the streets are torn up and before any paving is done. Hence the res olution for an immediate construc tion of the water system. Burgl&rs Make Haul. . Thieves effected an entrance into the G. HAFER HAS PARALYTIC STROKE Frank H. Hater, the well-known real estate dealer and promoter of this city, has been in a comatose state since lust Sunday night, at which time, during the temporary absence of his family, he suffered a stroke of paralysis. The stroke was a most severe one and has affected the eutire right side. The muscles of the face, how ever, do not seem drawn and Mr. Hafer has the appearance of one asleep. Since the discovery of his condition on the return of Mrs. Hafer on S mday evening, the patient has been wholly unconscious. The chanc es of his recovery are not the best though there is strong hope that he may rally. "This." said Dr. A. M. Steen, the attending physician, "is reallv Mr. Hafer's third stroke the third to which I have been called. The first ' was not serious, and yet it was un mistakably such and a wanting which we heeded. The second was quite severe and for a time Mr. Ha fer was slightly crippled in speech and muscular movements. Since that time several months airo he had concluded to give up active business and for some time he has appeared to oe improving so mat rew could notice any difference except per haps a slight falling off in weight in his appearance. This last stroke is severe, but there is ground for hope." Mr. Hafer has had much to do with bringing settlers to Florida. During his residence of several years in Palatka lie has promoted several schemes and has induced manv set- tiers to come to this section. He is perhaps one of the best posted men in rne Hrare on I" loriua land values. The ball entered Gat liu's shoulder inflicting a painful but not serious wound. Dr. Steen dress ed the wound and the young man has gone to his parent's home at Bost wick. Brooks is in lail on a charge of assault with intent to murder. Brooks claims that Gatlin whipped and otherwise abused his daughter, to whomJie was married on the 22d of last month. He also claims that he ordered his son-in-law off the place for this reason yesterday morn ing. The shooting took place in front of the Wyles school house, after Gatlin had left the Brooks home, and it is claimed that Brooks followed Gatliu up and brought about the trouble. The new freight depot of the S. A. L. R'y. at Tampa was badly dam aged by Are last Monday ri,'ht. The new pipe organ for the Catholic Ca thedral was among the damaged freight. Oue Dollar Saved Represents Ten Dollars Earned. The average man does not save to ex ceed ten per cent of his earnings. He must spend nine dollars In living ex penses for every dollar saved. That be ing the case he cannot be too careful about unnecessary expenses. Very of ten a few ceuts properly invested, like buying seeds for his garden, will save several dollars outlay later on. It Is the same In buying Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy. It eosts but a f-w cents, and a bottle of it in the house often eaves a doctor's bill of several dollars.
