' l One of the most important acts of
the recent, session of the Honda
Conference of the M. K. church,
south, in so far as this city is con
cerned, was tile choice of l'alatka as
the place for assembling its next an
nual session.
The olticial hoard of St. James
chinch extended the invitation to the
conference through l'astor Gates and
the conference accepted the invita
tion in preference to similar ones
from Jacksonville, Gainesville and
Tallahassee.
This means that during tho second
week of December, l'.KHI, l'alatka will
he the bead centre of Methodism in
Florida. Kvery Methodist pastor in
the state will Im here and also many
distinguished laymen.
It is la years since t lie conference
assembled in l'alatka and it was
time Ibis city again received the
hem fit. which always attends and
follows in the wake (,t such a gutlier-

The homes of the good people of
the city will he opened wide to these
Christian workers and they will be
made to feel a welcome that will be
ro.val and sincere.
l'alatka once came near to being
made a permanent center of Metho
dist inlluence. The church had de
cided to change the location of its
college from I.eeshurg. There was a
I committee of three on location, two
id' whom favored a site on Palatka
Heights. Tbeie was just one serious

would be obliged to pass daily.
This one serious objection lost l'a
latka the Florida Conference college,
1111 institution which will at present
outclass the State I'niversity in
point of attendance.

PUTNAM HOUSE OPENING

"The Putnam House, Palntka's pal
ace tourist hotel, will be opened for
the season on Wednesday, January
11)1 b.
"The management of the house
will not be decided under two or
three davs, said Mr. L. J 1. Merry
day, "nut the date of opening has
been fixed, no matter who manages
it. The iiiestion of management
lias been reduced to two or three ex
perienced hotel men accustomed to
handling properties of this magni
tude. One of them will take the
house. That is also settled."
The opening of the Putnam Mouse
is an important event, for l'alatka.
The fame of the big hotel and the
comforts it affords have spread to

dreds of tourists who of late years
have been going to other points, now
that the Putnam is to open, will

their list of winter stopping places.
