The revival services being held nightly this week in the Methodist Episcopal church are well attended and Rev. Grady is giving some splen did addresses. The music is an en joyable feature of the services. Mrs. Emily McGregor who has been summering in Puluth, Minn., has re turned to Palatka, much improved in health. Her daughter, Mrs. J. Leonard Burt, who accompanied her also re turned from a summer's sojourn in North Carolina and Minnesota. Senator Fletcher while in the city wa tne guest ot Judge and Mrs. S, J. Ililburn. Miss Josephine Steed had as her guests Saturday, her mother, and brother, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Clark son and Miss Frances Gardner, from DeLand. Mr. and Mrs. Melville Johnson and Mrs. Johnson's mother, Mrs. Thomp son, are now at home af'Moonstone." They will not remain long in Florida this winter as Mr. Johnson is taking a theological course in Suwannee. Mrs. S. C. Warner who has been spending several months in the north has returned to her home "Esperan za Grove." Mrs. Warner was ac companied home by her daughter Mrs. Isaac of North Carolina who will spend the winter with her. Mann returned Saturday from Tampa where he attended .the convention of the National Electric Association. Allen Price, prominent farmer in the western part of the county, has been in the city this week on a visit to his son, Mr. C. H. Price. Mrs. Ewing who has been the guest of Mrs. Walter Tilghman for a few davs returned Monday to her home in Interlachen. Miss Annie Stevens and Miss Mar garet Stafford of the faculty of Stet son University, were week-end guests of Miss Stevens' parents. Miss Ida Leib left Monday for Mi ami as delegate from the Woman's Club of Palatka to the Federation which convenes there this week. J. W. Ledbetter of Rome, Cm., has been in the city this week attending the Farmers' conventon. Mr. Let better was for some time interested in the Putnam House. Guy I. Illalock representing the Runtz Company millinery firm of At lanta, is in the city, the guest of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Garrison of N 3rd street. Mrs. S. II. Bass returned Monday from Mexico City where she has been the guest of her daughter, Mrs. J. E. Campbell for several months. Mrs. Campbell accompanied her home. Mr. and Mrs. R. J. McKenzie, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Coyan and Miss Tay lor of Jacksonville are the guests of Mrs. J. A. Helms of East Palatka. Thev are members of a hunting party. P. L. Sutherland of Jacksonville, a gentleman who is giving much time and attention to organized effort to the eradication of the cattle tick in Florida, has been in the city this week The Parol Post plan which was the idea of the Associated Charities to take place Saturday, November 25th has been postponed till a later date. The time will be announced later. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Callaway Tipton of Jacksonville have announced the engagement of their daughter, Lallie Slier, to Mr. John branklin Rogers of Palatka, the wedding to take place December 21st. Mrs. I. E. Brown has returned from short stay at her former home in Statesvile, North Carolina, where she was called two weeks ago by the sud- en death of her father, Rev. Dr. Love. Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Glass of At lanta have been guests for the week at the Putnam House. Mr. Glass s connected wth the Hearst newspapers and was in Palatka on an assignment for the national farmers' convention. The Woman's Club served meals Wednesday and Thursday in the room formerly occupied by James' Cafe. Judging from the manner in which the good, home-baked goodies dis appeared, our visting friends enjoyed the menu and added a neat sum to the club treasury. All ladies having articles of wear ing apparel, made up or unmade, jel lies, fruits of all kinds, canned goods, anything useful about the house will kindly send to Mrs. J. D. Lane on North Second street, as soon as pos sible, to be packed in the Thanksgiv ing box which is to be sent to the Thornwell Orphanage. Lieut. Moragne Husson, who has been here some time on a vi:;it to his aunts, the Misses Moragne, was noti fied last week that his commission as a lieutenant in the regular army had been issued by the secretary of war. Lieut. Husson will remain in Palatka until assigned to duty. H. J. Goldsmith, proprietor of the Saratoga Hotel, received a telegram on Monday night announcing the death of his mother at 5 o'clock that evening at her home in Cleveland, Ohio. Owing to the fact of the big convention here and the care of many guests, Mr. Goldsmith found it impos sible to go to Cleveland to attend the funeral obsequies. The entertainment which was given by the children, Saturday afternoon at the home of Mrs. W. A. Walton, for the benefit of the public library was a very successful affair, both from an artistic and financial stand point. The Thursdav afternoon Bridge Club met with Mrs. Stewart Worden vesterdav and after the games, the usual fine refreshments were served. Haskell has returned ! from a series of official visits to the ' Chapters of Order of Eastern Star in west Florida, of which order she is the Grand Matron for Florida. Mrs. J. E. Johnson and her grand mother Mrs. Eason Smith are leaving ; today for Ocala where they will visit Mrs. Smiths other daughter, Mrs. L. W. Ponder and after a few days' visit, they will proceed to Swainsbo ro, Ga., where Mrs. Johnson will leave Mrs. Smith with relatives. Upon her arrival home, Mr. and Mrs. Johnson who have apartments with Mrs. R. H. Hanley will move to the new Fearn side cottage on Madison street. The recepton and dance which was given in the Putnam House Wednes day evening was a delightful affair and a feast to the eye. The Edison machine furnished delightful music for the guests till the dancing be gan, promptly at 9 o'clock. The grand march was led off by Moragne Husson and Miss Helen Cochrane. The ladies and chil dren of Palatka responded generous ly so that the room was crowded with spectators. After the entertainment, cream and home baked cake wa serv ed the guests. The sum of $17.50 was realized and turned over to the library fund. Maj. W. L. Glessner of Atlanta, representing the Southern Ruralist, one of the South's most conspicuous agricultural papers, has been spend ing the week in the city and attend ing the National Farmer's Co-Opera-tive and Educational Union. Maj. Glessner is no stranger to the people of Palatka. For a number of years he was the active Immigration Agent of the G. S. & F. R'y, and up to his retirement some eight years ago was dancing and many admiring specta tors from home and abroad. The social committee of the Wo man's Club arranged for a reception and entertainment for the visiting la dies and their friends last evening in the Putnam House. A musical program was enjoyed and after that a social get-together hour followed which was a delightful way of prov ing again, that the women of the Pa latka Woman's Club know how to be hostess in the true sense of showing real southern hospitality. In other words the ladies were not to be out done by the men. Light refresh ments were served. Some of the northern farmers in attendance upon the convention this week were greatly impressed with the country about Palatka for farming.
