Glades county ha.; a Bay City ma chine working between Moore Ha ven and Sand Point to make a road that will connect with the Palm Beach county road. story runs thusly: Two men started from the village of Medaryville to Winamac, the capital of the county. After they had traveled- some four miles they reached a territory not in habited by man for miles. At a point some seven miles from the starting point they stopped for mid day refreshments. Their destination was approximately twenty-five miles from the starting point and why they had driven only seven miles before calling a halt we never heard ex plained. But we digress. Early in the afternoon the two travelers came dashing into town of their starting, the horses covered with foam and well nigh exhausted and the twain excitedly reported seeing a monster snake coiled in slimy folds and only a few feet from where they stopped and ate their noon-day meal. Their story created some excitement and nearly the entire male population, save the two, armed with guns, clubs, pitchforks, etc., etc., went out to see and kill the monster serpent. On reaching the spot and systematic search for many rods around, the nearest approach to a snake of inons- j ter size and slimy folds was three empty quart bottles. We wish to state thatwe have not intended to cast any reflections on the sheriff or the cat. W. E. Bryan, of Vineland, is load ing another car of naval stores. Stanley Lampp, of Englewood, was in McCall last week greeting old fri ends. B. A. Brantley has severed his in rerests in naval stores with Mr. Bryan and has entered the employ of P. L. Weeks. Wv hear that W. E. Bryan has sold his timber right and that soon we may expect to see a mill in that vicin ity. We hope the parties will estab lish the mill at the railroad and that they haul the logs over a tram way as our roads are none too good now and the hauling of heavy loads over them will soon make them impassa ble. Just last week, E. 1!. Mills receiv ed some ten or twelve tons of fertiliz er, which was ordered some six weeks ago. Mr. Mills will use it in the rais ing of watermelons. The long delay in the shipment reaching its destina tion has caused Mr. Mills no little worry. One dav recently we decided to visit the school at Vineland and to give the little fellow an outing, we took our boy along. We caught a ride to within one half mile of the school and we walked the remaindei of the distance. There were so many si range sights to Jlmmle, which must be admired and all sorts of questions were asked-most of which we were unable to answer -time was going much faster than we thought, so that we reached Ihe school house Just as the teacher was taking her leave. Jimmie was tired and hot so he threw his little coat on the porch and seat ed himself on the bottom step to take a rest, as we intended to go on a mile or so it took a little persuasion to ire! the little fellow started again. 1. S. Our boy is 73 years young. The party at L. A. Ainger's given in honor of the teachers of Engle wood, Vineland, McCall and Gaspar ill last Friday night was a complete success. There was enterainment for all who attended. There had been provided games and music for those whose taste desired them and the spacious dining room was given over to those who cared to dance. We were interested in the kindergarten and gave our time mostly to that de partment. We noted there were some very graceful dancers there, es pecially the ladies. Our ex-commissioner adjudged Miss Alice to be the prize-winner for which he received the thanks of that young lady. Mr. and Mrs. Ainger, the host and hostess, acquitted themselves on the floor as young people and received the ap plause of all present, with a hearty handshake. The crowd was various ly estimated up to one hundred. Gartman and Jones, two gentlemen who are farming and batching together this season, gave a dinner last Sunday and among the guests assembled the states of Indi ana, Pennsylvania and South Carol ina were represented.
