March 10th, 1922 COCNTV SKAT BIEOTION TO BK HELD OSi JUNK BOTH (Concluded front Is) page) which was laid over for further con sideration. E. A. Stahl, D. S. Decker and A. K. Aldridire presented a petition tor ex tension of roads in the Bermont dis trict, which was deferred for futher act Ion. The afternoon session of the board i was devoted to consideration of the! usual bills, after which the board ad- j jotirned till Tuesday morning. All the memera of the board were present when their less! on was re sumed, Tuesday morning. The county attorney read a letter from Attorney L'Engle of Jackson ville, relating to the suits pending in federal court on tile Murdock drain- j age bonds. Tlie lengthy discussion I that followed again disclosed the out-j rageous injustice to which the people ! of the Murdock district are sujected ! through those bonds. It was author itatively stated that, without any! election being held , bonds in the amount of 1100,000.00 were issued against the lands of the district, which contains only 17,000 acres of land. The bonds and Interest were i to be paid by the levy for five years of an acreage tax, and some land owners paid the tax in full lor the i entire period. The contract fur drain age was let, the contractor being put i loading citizens on the subject. The offer of the Mars Turpentine Compan.v to hire the six convicts flow under county sentence and working the roads, was unfavorably regarded, as figures were made by board mem bers howig that economy would be served by the county retaining the prisoners. The chairman brought up the ques tion of calling an election to select a permanent location for the county site. It was suggested that the elec tion be held on the date of the Juno primary; but. fearing that it might lead to complications, the date was fixed for Tuesday, June 20th, 1922. On request on the chairman, the clerk read from his record a slate nient of the amount of interest and sinking fund and the dates when due ot till the outstanding bonds of dis tricts and county. It should be applied just as the trees are at their height of bloom. Some growers are spraying at this season for scab on grapefruit. If they will add tobacco extract (black leaf 40) to the solution tor scab, they will kill the thrips and thus do two things at once. Thrips are small yellowish-brown insects about a twenty-fifth of an inch in length. They feed on the petals and other tender parts of the fiower, which causes much of the bloom to drop without setting fruit. Kggs are laid in the tender stem at the base Of the fruit and the young thrips, which hatch out from these eggs in three or four days, feed upon the de veloping fruit and cause smooth, irregular-shaped, sunken spots in the skin. These spots mar the appear ance of the fruit and lower its grade. The avocado grower who is meet ing trouble from pyriform scale and 50 gallons withertip needs but to spray his trees spray straight ' just before the blossoms appear with bordeaux-oil.
