Krause of Tampa, was here from Sunday till Wednesday morning, when she went home. She came to attend the funeral of her cousin, Mrs. Quednau. tot The Woman's Civic Association will meet in the town library at " o'clock, this (Friday) afternoon. Matters of importance must have at tention, and every member, there fore, is urged to attend. P. A. Barker, accompanied in his car by his mother, Mrs. Fred B. Pitt, arrived here from Daytona, Sunday evening, and remained till Tuesday afternoon, attending to Mrs. Pitt's property interests and mingling with friends. John VanHuss, who. with his daughter. Miss Cora VanHuss, has been the guest for the past three months of the family of his niece, Mrs. H. L. Blakely. left yesterday afternoon, for his home at Morris town, Tennessee. Next week being "Holy Week," there will be services in the church of the dood Shepherd every evening ex cept Saturday, at 7:30 p. in.; also on Friday, (Good Friday) at 10:30 a. m. The public will be cordially welcome at all these services. Mis. F. S. Cochran, who, accom panied by her baby, enjoyed a visit of three weeks here to her father-in-law. Mrs. Knnett .Adams and niece, Miss Clara Noland of Fort Ogden; Mrs. Millie Hagan, Emmett Perkins and Joe Cooper composed a party that motored over the Tamiami trail to Sarasota and back, Sunday. Mrs. Adams said that, with the exception of a short stretch between 1'unta Cor- da and Great Salt Spring, the road lis in fair condition. Mrs. V. A. White, local manager for the Western Union, is enjoying a I fortnight's visit from Mrs. K. B. ' Sine, an accomplished lady from New- York city, who owns valuable prop erty on the Allapatchee. Her hold ings include that romantic spot on the creek which, for years, has been a picnic ground whereon many de lightful festivals have been held. Admis sion 25c and" 60c. adv. Ex-Governor B. B. Comer of Ala bama, returning from a fishing trip to Captlva island, passed through here Saturday afternoon. While here, he spent an hour or two In dulging in reminiscences with his school-boy friend, A. P. Jordan, with whom he attended common school and college over fifty years ago. In all that time, this was the first meet ing between the two. Hattie Watson, a colored woman who runs a restaurant in "the quar ters," had E. T. Tillman, n colored citizen, arrested and brought before County Judge Trabue, Monday, on a charge of trying to break into and enter her "hash-house" and assault her. She proved her case, and the offender was fined $5.00 and costs. Another colored "gemtnun," Allen Stephens, is to be tried today on a charge of trespass preferred by E. 1,. Guthrie. Miss Elizabeth Fickhorn, a trained nurse from Baltimore, who came here last November, Rince when she has been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. C Anderson, left Tuesday morning, for Tampa and Saint Petersburg. When she came here, she was a physical wreck; now she has fully recovered, is in line health, and is so delklited with the benefit thai she received from this climate that she does not intend to return north, if she can find employment in her profession anywhere in this region. An alarm of fire sounded at noon Tuesday, sent hundreds of people in cars and on foot hurrying to the west end of Marian avenue, where I hey found no fire to speak of: whereupon they wheeled around and rushed out on the eastern end of the avenue, only to find no conflagration there. Finally, this reporter 'phoned the ice factory and asked where the dickens was the lire, and got the answer that it was in or on a little house opposite W. R. Howland's on the west end of Marian avenue. But it must have been a doll's house, as nobody saw the fire. A number of the local froung follcs had a delightful picnic on the north shore of the bay, Monday night. They were chaperoned' by Mesdames Frank Blount and J. Leslie Taylor, and the party included Misses Gene Pennock. Elise Blount. Thelma John son. Stella Sheffield, Lillian Sheffield, Ruth Osgood and Virginia Taylor; and Messrs. Coe Allen, James Merry hew. George Williamson, Charley Jones, Norman Johns and Thad Adams. They went in automobiles across the great bridge; had a merry lime and lots of good things to eat. which included cake and ice cream. W. A. DeLoaeh, yOUDg son of Cashier DeLoaeh of the Slate Bank, met with a very painful, not to say serious accident, Friday afternoon, when he tried to crank a stationary engine at his parents' home .near the railroad crossing on Taylor street. The crank flew loose and struck him with such force on the left side of the nose as to render him senseless for a moment. Without assistance he walked down town, secured surgical aid, and is now fast recovering from the accident. .
